[c]"Flintpaw! Larchpaw! Flintpaw! Larchpaw!" Flintpaw Bounded Up To Foxflight, Who Had Been Assigned To Mentor Her. "I'll Be The Best Apprentice Ever!" Flintpaw Meowed, Tail Swishing Excitedly. Foxflight Didn't Reply, But Blinked Warmly At Her, Touching His Nose To Her Head. "Training Starts Tomorrow At Dawn." The Ginger Tom Mewed.. Flintpaw Nodded And Then Bounded Up To Larchpaw And Sagefall. "Can Thrushkit Be An Apprentice In StarClan?" Larchpaw Mewed, Gazing At Sagefall Desperately. Sagefall Looked Away, Fear In Her Eyes. "I- Well. Ask Runningflight. She'd Know Better."

[c]Flintpaw And Larchpaw's Grandmother, Runningflight, Was Named After Her Own Grandmother, Runningflame. "Ok! I'll Ask Her!" Larchpaw Sprang Onto Her Paws. "Actually.. Don't Wake Her. She's On The Dusk Patrol Soon." Sagefall Mewed Quickly, Stopping Larchpaw With Her Tail. "But- You Said-" Larchpaw Began, But Sagefall Gave Her Tail A Lash, Telling Her To Stay Silent. "But- I Want To Know!" Larchpaw Cried, Staring At Her Mother. "No. Just- Go Play For Awhile, Or I'll Have Sparkstar Make You Pick Ticks Off Of The Elders." Flintpaw And Larchpaw Stiffened. "N-No!" Larchpaw Wailed Quickly. "I'll Be Good!"

[c]Sagefall Nodded. "Now Shoo." She Meowed, Flintpaw And Larchpaw Turned And Bounded Off. "Just Stay In Camp!" She Called Loudly After Them. Flintpaw Gave A Small Sigh. "But I Want To LEAVE Camp." She Growled Quietly To Larchpaw. "But- Foxflight And Cinderclaw Are Going To Take Us Outside Tomorrow." Larchpaw Pointed Out. Flintpaw Glared At Her Sister. "So? I'm Not Waiting!" Larchpaw Shook Her Head. "But Sparkstar-" Flintpaw Interrupted Her. "Sparkstar Will What? That Old Cat Won't Bother With Any Punishment." Larchpaw Glanced Over Towards Sparkstar's Den. "I Don't Know About That."

[c]Flintpaw Rolled Her Eyes And Sat Down With A Huff, Swishing Her Tail Angrily From Side To Side Along The Ground. "Sparkstar May Be Old, But He Hasn't Been Leader That Long. You're Acting Like He's Been Leader For Half Of His Life." Flintpaw Gazed At Her. "How Long He's Been Leader Doesn't Matter. Your Remaining Lives Don't Matter If You're An Elder!" She Growled Back Quietly. "How Come You Get To Be An Apprentice?" A Small Angry Voice Sounded From Nearby, And The Two Cats Turned Their Heads To See Mousekit, His Fur Fluffed Up.

[c]"I'm Nearly As Big As You Are!" He Protested. "What Makes You So Special?" Flintpaw Looked Away, Still Angry. Larchpaw Stared Down At Him, Silent. Mousekit Glared At Them Before Stomping Off, His Fur Ruffled. "So, There Are The New Apprentices." A Voice Sounded From Nearby, Growing Closer. "Cedarsplash!" Larchpaw Meowed, Eyes Bright. Cedarsplash Was Sagefall's Littermate. She Has No Kits, Nor A Mate.. Her Mate Was Lizardblaze, He Was Exiled Before Flintpaw And Larchpaw Were Kitted. "Did You Catch Anything On The Patrol?" Flintpaw Mewed, Tipping Her Head.

[c]"Well. I Did Catch A Massive Pigeon." Cedarsplash Boasted, Glancing At A Huge Pigeon At The Top Of The Fresh Kill Pile. Flintpaw And Larchpaw Glanced Briefly At It, Then Stared Up At Cedarsplash In Awe. "Can I Catch Giant Prey?" Flintpaw Asked. "I'm Sure You'll Catch Plenty Of Giant Prey When You're Bigger." Flintpaw Felt Her Tail Begin To Twitch Uncontrollably With Her Excitement. "Yes! I'm Going To Be The Best Hunter In The Clan!" Flintpaw Hissed, Crouching Down Low, Her Tail Swishing In The Air. "Then Keep Your Tail Still. The Prey Will Hear You If You Don't." Cedarsplash Instructed Sharply.

[c]Larchpaw Tipped Her Head. "Why?" Cedarsplash Looked At Her. "If You Swish Around Your Tail The Prey Will Hear You Rustling The Brush And Leaves" Larchpaw Seemed Confused, But Stiffened Her Tail As Instructed. Flintpaw Did The Same. "The Other Clans Rely Mainly On Sneaking To Hunt. We Rely On Speed." Flintpaw Looked At Her. "Speed? Then Why Are We Crouching?" Cedarsplash Crouched Low, Gazing Back At The Apprentices. "We Sneak For A Short While, Then The Chase Is On To Catch Prey." Larchpaw Saw That Cinderclaw Was Watching The Training Mission With Interest.

[c]Flintpaw Seemed To Understand Now And Focused Back On Where She Was Looking. "See That Leaf?" Cedarsplash Asked Quietly. "Yea?" Flintpaw Mewed, Louder Than Intended. "Shh- If You Were Actually Hunting The Prey Would Hear You." Cedarsplash Growled Quietly. Flintpaw Silenced Herself. "That Leaf. Pretend It's A Mouse." Larchpaw Was Puzzled. "But It's Not- It's A Leaf." Cedarsplash Nodded. "Yes But Pretend It's A Mouse And Sneak. Once You Reach The Edge Of The Tall Grass Stop. And Pounce." Cedarsplash Instructed. "Bear In Mind. This Only Works For Things Like Mice. Your Mentors Will Teach You More About Rabbit Hunting Later."

[c]Flintpaw Nodded. "It's A Leaf. I'm Not Hunting A Leaf.. You Can't Eat A Leaf." Larchpaw Growled. "What'do Mean? I Can Eat A Leaf." Cedarsplash Stiffened. "Flintpaw I Didn't Mean To Eat The-" But Flintpaw Had Already Sprang, Her Force Blew The Leaf Away Slightly. When She Landed, She Gave A Tiny Growl And Sprang At It Again, This Time, Her Claws Poked Into The Dry Leaf. She Bit Into It.. And Ate It. "Flintpaw!" Cedarsplash Gasped. "You Just ATE A Leaf!" Larchpaw Hissed, Shock Flashed Into Her Eyes And She Stared Wordlessly At Flintpaw. "It Wasn't Tasty.." Flintpaw Mumbled. "I Wasn't Expecting It To Be." Cedarsplash Growled Back. "I Wasn't Saying To Eat The Leaf."
