"Okay guys!" Kelly said, "I think our final project is amazing!" "Yeah! It looks so great. A redefinition of the perfect volcano," Matt added. "I still don't know why we had to redo this project. I thought third grade was enough," I said. "Well, Christy, I though you would like an assignment that would be in your words...a break," Mr. Smith said. Oh darn it. Why does Mr. Smith always have to be there when I say something stupid. I seriously need to get that guy a bell like a cat or something. It would sure make this a lot easier. I cannot get in trouble; that would be the second time this week.
So I quickly say, "Um, sorry Mr. Smith. I'm lucky to have this opportunity to take a break from the rigorous, yet educational labs that we take. And by the way, I'm also very lucky to have just as kind as a teacher as you." Wow that was a long remark. I'm glad I didn't rant on longer. "Thank you for your appreciation dear," Mr. Smith said, "Class is now over you may leave."
Good, I guess I was convincing enough or he at least was merciful. Well at least there's one less thing to worry about. Now which class do I go to? Math, but now I have to also go to my locker. I better hurry! My locker and my class aren't close together especially with human traffic. "Wait hold up!" I heard. I turned around it was Kelly.
Then she said, "Where do you think you're going? We're best friends remember." "Well, I wouldn't say we're even aquaintances, but okay," I joked. "Ugh you're the worst. Let's get our books and walk--more like run to math," she said. "Okay," I replied. So anyways we got our books and blah blah blah. She started chatting about the latest gossip and yeah it was kind of boring. Kell's great and all, but she talks for long periods of time. I guess I don't have that much high ground in that department either, but it's kind of annoying.
Well somewhere between our other best friend Jani's new haircut and how her locker was on the fritz again, I saw her...Caitline Young. Okay don't get me wrong, I did get Caitline in trouble a couple times, but it wasn't like she didn't do anything wrong. We both kind of have this little war that has been going on for quite a while.
I don't really remember how exactly it started, but I remember that it got really bad when some guy got in the picture. I didn't even like him too; it was so unfair!!!!!! Why Caitline Young too of all people?! Caitline always held grudges and never stopped being so cold and merciless. So many other people had the same problem with her too. I'm serious! I need to form a support group. We could call it CYOA (Caitline Young Offenders Anonymous). Yes! I will start a support group and everyone will join and it will be beautiful!
But anyways, back to what happened. I saw Caitline Young and then we made eye contact. Worst idea ever right?! But then she walked up to me and in a cheery tone she said, "Hey Christy!" And then pulled me into a big hug. What the heck is going on here I thought. "Hi," I replied half-heartedly. "Well anyways," she spoke. "I want to invite you to my sweet sixteen party. It'll be a blast!" Okay the other weird quality about Caitline was that she always turned sixteen.
I can promise you now, when she's pushing seventy she'll turn seventeen. I've heard that there's been about five parties for the event, but it's weird that she wanted me there this time. So naturally with my stubborn attitude I said, "Why would you want me there? You never are nice to me anyway!" "Girlie," she said. "I just want us to make up already! Hasn't this little rivalry gone a bit too far? You know, we'll be graduating soon and we may regret never making up." Classic move, act like you're the bigger person. I guess we all do that sometimes, but it only takes a true analyst to figure out if you're truly sincere or not. I am one of those few.
"Well, fine. Who's going to be there?" I said. See Caitline, I can play that game too, but at least I keep my same old attitude and stay true to myself too. "Only the whole grade," She mocked. Oh yeah, she was onto me. Hmm, I guess I never found her so good at reading people like me. Weird.
