I wake up to the warm sun blinding me as usual, and I sit up to stretch. I feel incredibly groggy for some reason too, and I turn to my nightstand to see the dagger lying there in the sheath, and then i remember that today is the day I have been waiting for since I was 6 years old. Shit! What time is it!? Did I oversleep?!? I think as I quickly get up and throw on a dark tunic, a grey crop top over it, dark pants and leather boots, a standard combat belt, and my mother's old red bandana, the color used to be a beautiful bright red but over the years it began to fade into a cool maroon. I then quickly get ready, slap on my glasses and clip the sheath with the dagger inside to my belt and run downstairs.
"Hey mom! I'm super sorry but I can't really tal-" I exclaim before quickly being cut off by my mother saying "of course you can talk! I may not see you again for a long time! I'm going to miss you!" "I know.." I grab my usual piece of toast. "I'm sorry, I already overslept and now Fern and Annalise might have already left-" "SUCH NONSENSE!" My mom snaps back. "Your friends adore you! And they will never leave you behind.. before you go though, I want to do something for you.." she says as she embraces me, I go to hug her back and out of nowhere she fixes the bandana that i horribly put on.
"It was messed up, I couldn't let you save the world and look like that!" She smiles as she actually hugs me now, we share sentimentals and I walk out the door, and go on my way to meet up with Fern and Annalise at the entrance of Emer, Emer is a very beautiful forest village where the main source of all of our emeralds come from, and it also happens to be Fern's hometown!
"CHARLIE! OVER HERE!!" Annalise yells from my right, grabbing my attention quickly. She and Fern begin to wave at me to come closer, and I begin to run towards them and we initiate a big group hug, then we all stare at the entrance of the forest. "This is it guys! The day has finally come." I say as I put both of my hands on hips.
"I'm so excited that I could literally explode!" Annalise squeals with excitement. "I second that!" Fern replies. "Well, we can't wait any longer, shall we start our adventure?" I ask the two as they both nod their heads very fastly. "I mean, what could go wrong? I'm pretty sure we won't even meet any demon above a class 5 right?" "I agree" Fern replies as we walk into the forest and onto our way to adventure that can help make the world a better place.
We pass briefly through Fern's hometown, and we begin to walk deeper into the dark forest. After a couple minutes of walking, I hear a faint footstep, and immediately I grab Fern and Annalise and whip out my dagger, Fern and Annalise following with their weapons. I tell them to stay back and I begin to walk slowly to where the sound came from, staying as alert as physically and mentally possible. I stop right in front of a bush, and the source of the sound. The bush starts the move as if there is something inside, and Fern casts a spell that summoned a bunch of prickly vines, just in case she has to attack anything.
after maybe a second of rustling, something jumps out of the bush and I jump back startled, gripping my dagger as hard as I can. Until I see that it's just a Jackalope, and all three of us sigh in relief. "Oh thank god!" Fern exclaims as she releases the grip she had on her chest, because she felt that her heart was going to beat out of her chest, and she recoils the vines and slops down on a tree. "I got really scared for a minute! I was afraid we were going to have to fight something in the first hour of our adventure!" Annalise says, sitting down on a rock, kicking her feet. "Oh come on! It was just a false alarm!" I say.
"We're still gonna hunt demons! What are we waiting for? Let's go!" I point to the end of the forest and put my foot on a rock. "Charlie's right, we can do this as a team! As we have all these years." Fern adds on as she clips on her wand and stands up, Annalise doing the same, and then we start to make our way again to the end of the forest, and the entrance to the neighboring village of Rubato. An hour later, we finally reach the end of the forest and I see the massive town hall of Rubato. Rubato is a more richer town compared to Emer, Rubato being the main source of crops and food to other nearby villages, including my hometown.
We excitedly walk through the entrance and we are met with a young, maybe around my age at least (like 12-14), dark haired nun with a hood covering her head completely like a hood, and piercing teal eyes, but for some reason, something felt kind of.. off about her. "Welcome to uhh, Rubato! My name is err, Florence! And I am a amateur nun and a tour guide here!" The girl beams as she tries to grab Annalise's hand, before Fern waves the girl off, I know that Fern can feel that this is suspicious too. The nun starts to show us around, giving us random and most of the time incorrect facts about the village.
Even an hour later, I still can feel in my gut that something is wrong with this "nun". She had to think for a second to tell us her own name, and she did the same with the name of the village itself. The nun leads us to where we will be staying for the time being and the second I close and lock the door, I immediately demand Fern and Annalise to keep an extremely close eye on this "nun" and to never turn their backs because i don't think that "Florence" is exactly who she says she is...
