(~Nightmare's POV~)
The human certainly hasn't made the night easy. What started out as pure silence was now a castle echoing with screaming.
This sort of thing isn't exactly new to us. Dust has lost his mind and trashed his room on many than one occasion. But whether we intervene or not, he will tire himself out within the hour.
On the other hand, she won't stop. It's been relentless all throughout the night. I lost track of time of how long it's been. Even I, the god of negativity, start to feel actual sympathy on account of her lungs. Screams of pain, grief, anger, or terror? I can't even tell. It's loud and haunting.
I can hear her still, even in my private library/office. I groan, cupping my hands over my skull.
'I can't even read-'
There was a firm knock on the door, drawing my attention away from my thoughts. "Come in." Dust and Horror stepped through the door, one furious and the other concerned.
"You wanted her dead. Let me in there and finally bring an end to this meaningless toRturE." Dust demands. "She will eventually wear herself out. Getting into our heads is exactly what she wants. Even if she wishes for death, I'm not one to let her win her way so easily. Horror, I assume you've checked on her after dinner."
"That's what I came to tell you, Your Excellency. I can't get in. I've tried to get her to open the door but all she continues to do is scream." I glare to him, lifting my head, "What do you mean you 'can't get in'? The door locks and opens to the outside hall. There is no way for her to lock it or barricade herself in." Horror grows more adamant, stretching his arms out in front of him as he replies, "I know that, Boss! I'm telling ya- I CAN'T OPEN THE DOOR."
I stand up from my desk, "Dust, go back to your quarters. We will speak further on these issues tomorrow. Horror, we're breaking down the door. Go. NOW."
(~Dream's POV~)
"Dream-" Ink rushed into my throne room. My soul's magic has been stirring endlessly with turmoil. There's no way I'll be sleeping tonight.
Breaking from the routine of pacing around the throne, I run to him as fast as I can.
'Where is Y/N?!!!'
"Tell me you've found her. PLeAse InK-" I beg desperately.
'I need to know at least something. It's been three whole days now. I need to know thAt she's unHarMEd.'
His pupils change as he blinks, giving me a look of sadness. He can't bear seeing me like this. I know that, but I can't rest until we find her. "Dream, I.." Ink stops himself, breaking eye contact with me. My hope shatters. His hesitation and expression of pity says it all.
He holds out his hand and opens his palm. "This was pinned up against one of the trees along the search radius you gave us. Nothing else, not even tracks.." Laying on his hand is a ripped piece of fabric with the sun's crest. I immediately recognize it. It's the crest embroidery from Y/N's scarf.
My soul freezes. I shakily grab it from Ink, but my hands are trembling so badly that I almost dropped it. I can't take my eyes away from it.
'Y/N..'
Ink places a firm grip on my shoulder, "There was no blood. I believe whoever took her did no harm to her. However, this was no accident either. It's a clean cut, and they put it there for us to find. Your Majesty, I recommend that you let me and Blue go over the border and-"
