MONDAY

I woke up the next day, feeling rested, but the unsettling pain of Harry still not being mine took over my heart once I noticed he had hung up.

My professor had emailed last night that we had the day off due to a family emergency and I decided I should start getting my life back in order, starting with unpacking.

I got up and slipped a pair of biker shorts under my oversized shirt and walked downstairs to get coffee. Kenny and Mark were in the kitchen making their breakfast together and I stopped to watch them.

The way Mark kissed her cheek softly as she poured his coffee. The looks that I knew had secret little messages to each other as they served the eggs and bacon they had made. I smiled softly and took a deep breath before walking in interrupting their moment.

"Morning." I half smiled and they both turned to me.

"Morning Lace, you look rested." Kenny smiled at me and I nodded, grabbing a cup from the cupboard.

"Yeah, I actually slept last night." I walked over to pour myself coffee as Mark walked over and put his arm around me kissing the top of my head.

"I'm seeing dad today." He said softly.

"Oh. How did that happen?" I turned to Kenny serving me an extra slice of bacon she made and whatever eggs were left over. I wasn't eating much anyways so I didn't mind.

We all sat around the table and I sipped my coffee, listening to my brother, "He finally left a voicemail asking me to talk out everything that happened. Followed by one from mom."

"So mom softened you up then." I said teasingly.

He took a deep breath and chuckled, "You know, you women in my life, I'm weak."

Kenny and I laughed slightly, "We know sweetie." She smiled at him.

"You aren't mad right?" He raised a soft eyebrow at me.

"Mark, at the end of the day they are our parents. I never said you couldn't have a relationship with them. I just don't want one right now."

I traced my finger around the brim of my coffee cup and bit my lip softly.

Marked nodded and cleared his throat, "Well, just think about it, Christmas is around the corner and—Mark, stop. I love you, but just let it be, please. I haven't had a single moment of just peace, so please." I pressed my lips into a small smile and he nodded.

"Alright, well I better head out before I'm late. Thank you for breakfast Kenny." He smiled, picking up his last piece of bacon to take with him, kissing Kenny.

Once he left it was just Kenny and I. We both sat in silence and I reached up to pull my bun out. As I did, Kenny's eyes widened and it took me a moment to realize why. Around my hair tie was a giant clump of hair. I felt my breathing slow and I shook my head, "Kenny..."

"It's okay Lace. It's okay. Here, let me see." She got up and quickly walked over to me. She smoothed my hair and checked my scalp for bald spots. I heard her take a deep breath and clear her throat, "No bald spots, but your hair looks uneven, in the length. I can cut it for you. Straight across, just to your shoulders. Or I can get Isaac here before your brother gets home. Whatever you want Lace."

I swallowed and cried softly, she walked around and knelt next to me so I could see her face, "It's okay Lacey. Let's just avoid putting your hair up right now, okay?"

I nodded and wiped my tears, "Can you get Isaac here, please."

She nodded and stood up, about to turn and walk away, but quickly turning back and holding me, "I love you Miss Lacey."
