"You must be home before 8. Everyone will be arriving around that time, and you need to hide your gifts before they arrive. You will keep your wands in your hands and, for Merlin's sake, Ron! Listen to me! What time do you have to be back by?" Molly questioned.
"Eight P.M sharp" The five of them echoed.
"Good. Now hurry along. You have 3 hours"
Hermione smiled at her one last time before going out the door. Harry and Ron were already talking in the distance as Lavender and Ginny waited for her. "Luna is already at the café"Ginny told, glancing at her watch.
They followed Harry and Ron to the apparation point, wrapping their coats around themselves tightly. Ron held out an arm for Lavender and Harry held out an arm for Ginny. And when she took it, he held out another arm, looking at Hermione with a raised eyebrow.
She smiled at him gratefully, and hooped her arm through his. And then they apparated to Diagon alley, ready for their Christmas shopping. They went straight into the café, finding Luna at a nearby table. They greeted each other before sitting down and the food appeared instantly. "I already ordered" Luna shrugged.
They talked as they ate, but only Ginny noticed how uncomfortably quiet Hermione was. She made a plan.
"We can't split up- what if something happens?" Harry said.
"Nothing will happen, we'll be able to finish faster if we split"Ginny told. "Lavender said herself that she doesn't know what to get us. Ron can help her. And Harry, you have the exact same interests as Ron, so you'll be going to the same stores anyway"
Harry didn't seem convinced. He looked around Diagon alley, frowning. Ginny stepped in front of him, taking his face into her hands and bringing his lips to hers. "I need to speak with Hermione without Lavender and Ron around. If we have enough time at the end, we'll get sundays, just you and me" She mumbled.
Harry slipped an arm around her waist and pecked her on the lips before sighing, "Alright. But if something happens-"
"I'll send you a patronus" Ginny nodded.
"Oi! That's not 10 feet apart!" Ron snapped as he and Lavender walked out of the café. "I can't be gone for 5 seconds-"
"Oh shut up"Ginny snapped, not pulling away from Harry. "We're splitting up. Me, Hermione and Luna and you, Lavender and Harry"
"Why?"Ron asked suspiciously.
"Because we're already down half an hour and we need to be home soon. If we split, we can get more things done" Ginny said.
She stepped away from Harry, not giving Ron time to object before she wrapped one arm around Hermione's shoulders and the other around Luna's. She dragged them away quickly until they were far enough to not hear them.
"You were awfully quiet back there"Ginny told, stepping in front of Hermione.
Hermione raised an eyebrow, "Is that why you wanted to split up?"
"Obviously!"Ginny snapped. "You haven't heard anything from him, have you?"She asked.
Hermione looked down at her shoes. "I've gotten the same note I've been getting every four days. 'I can't come today'. We were supposed to meet today and the next is on Christmas"
"Draco?" Luna guessed. Ginny nodded but didn't pay her much attention. "When did you get the note?" Ginny asked.
"I found it by the window when I woke up" Hermione muttered. She cleared her throat and looked up. "Honestly, it doesn't matter. I've already given up. I didn't expect him to come today and I dont expect him on Christmas morning"She told.
