Aiden could sense the atmosphere change around her. Her body tensed with the feeling of a new presence and she kept her guard up. The volume was growing louder and louder outside of her AirPods and she was starting to get irritated. Finally, she had to pause her music and see what all the ruckus was about.
"WHY ARE THERE A BUNCH OF KIDS GETTING OUT OF THOSE BUSES?!"
"YOU DIDN'T HEAR? WE'RE MERGING WITH THAT OTHER BOARDING SCHOOL ACROSS TOWN!"
"WHAT?! WHY?"
"DUNNO. I HEARD THAT SOMETHING HAPPENED AT THE OTHER SCHOOL, SO NOW THEY'RE HAVING TO MOVE THE KIDS HERE UNLESS THEIR PARENTS TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE."
Everyone was staring out the glass walls. Kids walked out of the buses, looking completely over with the day, and waited to get their bags from where the drivers were unloading.
Aiden scanned every one of the newbies. She counted 72 students in all that exited the buses. They all wore a uniform that was composed of a blazer and slacks or skirts in all black.
A couple of the kids Aiden took note of. A boy with brown freckles splattered across his soft cheeks and electric blue eyes glanced Aiden's way. He turns his head, his brown hair flopping from the movement, and looks to a girl beside him who he nudges. The girl looks up from her phone to the boy, making her face become visible without her hair in the way. She, like the boy, had skin that looked soft to the touch and a complexion that's reminiscent to a sunset. Her hair was a golden hue that created a halo effect around her head and framed her face in light waves.
The boy makes a gesture and they both look in Aiden's direction. Both of them look with intense curiosity but Aiden could tell there was something more to the girl's gaze. All she had to do now was figure out what that something was. For now though, she would pretend not to notice their stares.
