— Gordie still gets pampered by his mother despite his many attempts to get her to stop. He's learning how to cook but he hates doing it at home because every time he makes something, he has to put up with the overly-nice comments he gets from his family.
— He knows he's loved but he wishes his mother would stop treating him in such a patronizing way. She does, however, also provide her son with advice and cooking tips which always end up being useful to him. Gordie doesn't really know how to feel about that.
