RUE SAT AT THE ISLAND STARING AT THE CUPBOARDS in front of her, jadon was getting them a glass of water. rue had been planning the whole flight home what she was going to say to him when she saw him, but that went straight out her head the second she saw him. she was doubting herself. doubting everything she thought she knew. she wanted to curl up in a ball and disappear. she thought she knew what she saw in the picture, jadon left the club with Madelyn there was no denying that. but she didn't know the truth, why the left together, why they got in the taxi together. that is the only reason she is here, to finally find out the truth, and because khai had threatened to boob punch rue if she didn't.

when jadon finally sat down in front of her, she realized she didn't want to loose him. for the first time in her life, she was truly happy. jadon had helped her find her old self again. the rue that would always have a smile on her face, the rue that would laugh at dad jokes that she never fully understood but laughed anyway.

it wasn't until she saw those pictures of jadon and madelyn till she realized how much jadon meant to her, and in this exact moment, rue realized how much she meant to jadon. she could see the fear in his eyes, she could tell he wasn't just going to give up, he wasn't just willing to let her walk out that door without a fight.

"i know what you're thinking, but i swear nothing like that happened, i swear. me, dele, cindy and madelyn all left together. the paps only caught me and madelyn leaving." jadon started to explain, as he slowly reached for rues hand, scared in case she would pull it away.

"rue, from the moment i saw you in that club, i was hooked. i had wanted to talk to you every time i saw you there, and i really wish i had done it sooner now i know the reason you were there all the time."

"no one will ever get to have me like you do rue, i'm yours alright? everyone else can fuck off."

"i'm sorry." rue spoke, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear. "what are you sorry for, baby?" jadon softly asked, rubbing his thumb across her knuckle. "a lot of things. but i am sorry for shutting you out and not letting you explain what actually happened. it's just i don't know how to do this whole relationship thing, properly i mean. i spent so long thinking that how it was with adam, was just how it was supposed to be, my mum and dad divorced when i was sixteen, my dad was an acholic, had been way before i was born. he didn't work, and if he ever did get a job, he would be there for a week before he would get sacked because he would turn up drunk or not turn up at all."

"my mum worked three jobs just to try and get enough money to keep us going. i remember all the times my mum would try and get my dad to get a job and stay sober, my dad would just get so angry. he wouldn't listen to her. he didn't care if we had money for food, as long as there was enough for drink, then that was all that mattered."

"there were so many times i would wake up the next morning and my mum would have a black eye, or a red shaped hand print on her face. as much as she tried to hide it, i knew he would beat her. sometimes she wouldn't make it into work because she was that sore."

"you didn't deserve any of what's happened to you throughout your life. but you deserve this, you deserve a good happy life." jadon says, "adam always said that i was a hard person to love, and he was right. i am a very hard person to love, i don't believe that i am not worthy. that you don't deserve this."

"i love you, rue. i love you for all your weird little habits. you don't need to hide from me anymore." he whispers into her neck, words that mean too much. "i'll sit with you in your darkness every day if it brings you some ease."

"do you feel safe with me?" he whispers against her ear, his voice weak.

"so safe." she breathes with a nod. "i think i've been searching for you all my life, without even knowing it."

"i've got you?" he asked. "you've always had me." she smiled slightly.

"when he said it was hard to love you, he was wrong." jadon glances to the ground, dropping his hand from the doorframe and begins to walk out of the room, leaving her mind reeling over the last thing he says before he walks off, leaving her staring at an empty doorway."

"it's actually pretty easy."
