I'm in the lineup.What?
IM in the lineup, I'm starting.
What the fuck!
I got the message this morning. I also got Liam barging into my room yelling at me before I could even completely wake up.The line up reads:
Liam Brookes (FB)
David Wensman (RF)
Leo Brookes (SS)
Cyrus King (DH)
Erik Sweeney (SB)
Nico Webb (LF)
Ben Teller (CF)
Kyle Wheeler (TB)
Carl March (C)Andrew Moore (P)
Of course it's not a huge deal. Not my first rodeo, I just didn't expect to start this early.
I must have really impressed Coach.
I felt a little proud of myself, this is probably what those teachers who found out how to include their Bitmoji into their power points feel.Liam seems pretty pleased too. We spent all day going over game strategy like how we used to. The rest of the guys did the same amongst each other. They know not the mess with Liam and I while we're scheming. Liam and I have always had our own way of doing things, the other guys don't question it anymore. As long as it works and we win, it's good enough for them.
Spring Hill has always been one of the best schools athletically. Academically we're pretty average but unlike the other schools in the district, almost all of our sports teams have won a championship.
That being said, we aren't the most well liked school. It felt like an eternity until 5:00 to rolled around. The whole team is on the field warming up for the game that starts in 20 minutes. We wore our home jerseys, they're the all black ones with white outlined around the hem with our names and numbers on the back. The name 'Huskies' in big black, white, and blue letters on the front.
As wait for Grand Mountain to pull up, the bleachers begin to fill with students and parents.
My parents, however, couldn't get off there shifts early enough to make it. They were devastated to say the least, especially my mom. But they made Olive come and record everything so they can watch it when they get home tonight.
I get it, I mean I would've liked for them to be here but they have plenty of others to attend.I stand in between second and third base, throwing the ball to Kyle then to Erik.
The Grand Mountain bus just arrived, the mountains lions pour out of the bus, sprinting to the opposing side of the field. Both teams are supposed to at the field at least 20 minutes before the game starts. Mean less to say they were late."Well, well, well, look who decided to show up." I hear David call out, move in from the out field.
Some of the Grand Mountain boys turn to us and flipped him off.
I smiled and threw the ball to Erik. They won't have enough time to get warmed up. The game starts in less then ten minutes and they're barely putting their cleats on.
They scramble, dropping their bags off their shoulders, digging through, pulling out their batting gloves and bats.
Guests always bat first. We obviously have the upper hand of course, we are the better team, statistically. But that still doesn't guarantee anything, in a game like baseball, anything can happen.
I've faced Grand Mountains before, I've won against them before. But that was the old me.
The me that wasn't just coming back from a serious leg injury.
What if this "new and improved" me can't bounce back from this brake?
I would be letting everybody down if I'm the reason we lose this game, not just the team but myself.
