Annabelle Nicholson is a stubbornly soft woman. Even while the world had been at war, she had remained gentle, despite the death and heartache that had plagued them all. A war nurse back then, she did what she could. Where the rest of her family fought, she healed. It seemed the least she could do to protect the ones she loved and the country she called home.
The war was over. Annabelle had returned home to her family — or, at least, the ones that had made it back. She'd lost a lot in the war — but hadn't everyone? There wasn't a soul left unscathed by its horrors. She'd thought, in returning home, she might have been able to reclaim a little bit of the innocence she'd lost, but it seemed that part of her was gone forever. Her life before the war had been a dream, but now she was awake. There was no returning to that once peaceful slumber.
So, she did what she did best. She defied expectations.
She'd had many duties in the war. She may have given them up when it ended, but she saw no reason why she couldn't build a career for herself. She knew she was capable. Anyone else's opinion was hardly of any concern to her.
Annabelle has always said that she wants an escape from the monotony of her humdrum life, but the chaos awaiting her when she returns to America certainly isn't quite what she meant. Struggling to stand steadfast and solid upon shifting sands, she fights to stay balanced. This was not the escape she had longed for.
One day, Annabelle Nicholson will change the world. She'll reform all we know to be true, and shake the very foundations of the world around her. A pioneer, a hero, a genius — her accolades and adjectives would be endless. Her name would forever echo in the halls of eternity, her actions forever rippling in the pond of existence.
We aren't there yet. Right now, we are back at the beginning. Howard Stark has just been accused of treason, Peggy Carter has been roped into helping clear his name, and Annabelle?
