My eyes opened to hear soft breathing next to me. Elijah was flat on his back, sound asleep. It had been the first time in months that he was actually asleep with me in the morning, and not getting ready, pulling his suit on. It felt so... simple. Domestic, even, and after getting turned into a vampire, I didn't even think this kind of thing would be possible anymore. Not after fighting wayward witches and psycho wolves hellbent on the demise of the Mikaelsons, the oldest vampire family alive. Not after fighting very close family and friends, even.I snuggled up to my fiance, catching sight of the gorgeous ring he'd proposed with just yesterday, sitting on my finger. I began to trace patterns on his chest absentmindedly, only listening to Elijah's soft breathing and hearing the birds chirp and the sun softly streaming into the room, casting an ethereal glow over my fiance as he slept. Slowly but surely, I felt him stir. I sat up slowly, looking at him.
'Good morning, darling,' he said softly, sitting up to give me a morning kiss. He tenderly brushed back my hair with nothing but love in his eyes. 'You look wonderful.'
'My hair's a mess, my eyes probably look terrible, I'm hungry, and this is the first time I've properly slept in days, and you're telling me I look wonderful?'
'You do, my love. Absolutely wonderful.' He took my left hand in his and kissed the finger with the ring on it. 'I get to wake up next to you every day for the rest of our immortal lives, Lilliana. I get to meet this gorgeous face as I wake up in the morning, and before I go to bed every evening.' He kissed me again, then began to pull himself out of bed, but I grabbed him.
'Absolutely not, Elijah, you are staying in bed.'
'No,' he said, a soft smile creeping up on his face.
'Yes, and you know you can't say no.' He climbed back in, making his way over to my side of the bed so he could crawl on top of me, giving me another breath-stealing kiss. He gazed down at me with the most loving look in his eyes.
'Is that better?' he asked in a soft, husky tone.
'Much,' I replied. He removed himself from the bed and pulled out one of my sundresses, throwing it onto the bed.
'Get dressed, Lilliana. We've got things to do on our way home.' I was mildly taken aback by the statement.
'Wait...' I called out. 'Home?' Just as he entered in the bathroom, he turned and gazed at me again with that soft, loving look.
'Yes, home. To New Orleans.'
