Chapter nineteen: Running wild

I ran. I didn't know where I was going, I didn't know how I was going to make it back to the castle, my friends and the guards werent nearly as fast enough to catch up, but I didn't care. I felt free.

I ran faster than I ever did before. I ran past trees, jumped over rocks, lept over streams and bushes and branches. I loved every part of it. I ran and ran until I finally stopped in an open field.

I stood there, digging my bare feet into the ground. My shoes had fallen off a long time ago and my pants and shirt were all torn and dirty. I stood there breathing in the clean fresh air of the forest and staring at the beauty in front of me.

I saw nothing but miles and miles of field and forest. It was amazing, I had never seen so much green in my life.

I walked into a patch of flowers and laid down, looking up at the bright blue sky and watched the clouds go by.

I knew I shouldn't have just ran out like that, but I didn't regret it one bit. This was worth every part of it. Plus I was the prince, what could they possibly do?

I watched the sky for a little longer and then fell asleep. After a while, I felt something heavy on my chest, I opened my eyes and Jason was staring at me in his wolf form as he laid on me.

"How the hell did you even find me?" I asked

Jason just barked at me and huffed in my face. I laughed as I pet his head. He looked away for a moment like he was angry, but quickly gave in after I started scratching his ears.

"I knew you couldn't stay mad at me you big furrball" I teased

He just growled softly as I continued to scratch his ears. Then, he shifted back into his werewolf form. He still laid on top of me but held some of his weight as he took my face in his hands and I put my hands on his back. He looked at me with confusion, worry, sadness, and relief.

"Why did you run away like that? I was so worried about you" he asked

"I'm sorry, I tried to resist it, but I couldn't fight it. The urge was so strong" I said

He sighed and kissed me on the forehead

"That's the animal inside of you, sometimes you get urges to run, I did the same thing all the time when I was younger" he said

"It felt good, really good, I just felt free" I said

"I know cherry bomb, but next time tell me, I thought something was wrong with you" he said as he smiled a little bit

"I will, I promise, but how did you even find me?" I asked smiling back at him

"We're mates remember? I followed your scent" he said smirking proudly

"Damn your werewolf mate instincts" I said

Jason laughed and I hit him on the head lightly and grinned

"You weren't followed right?" I asked

"Ouch, and course not, I was way too fast for them" he said

It was my turn to laugh, as Jason nuzzled his face into my neck, wrapping his arms around me and breathing in my scent. I put my face in his hair, wrapped my arms and him, and breathed in his scent. He smelled like fresh rain, berries, and mints.

We just stayed like that for a while, talking and laughing and forgetting everything else. It was like we were the only ones left in the world. As the sun started to set, we sat up and Jason pulled me into his lap, hugging me from behind as we sat in the field.

The stars had come out by now and the sky was an aura of so many different colors. It looked half night and half daytime as the sun was still setting. It had to be one of the most beautiful sunsets I had ever seen.

"Wow, it's so colorful" Jason said

"Yeah, it's beautiful, I wish we could do this all the time" I said

"We could do this more often if you want, but maybe not all the time" he said

"Your right on that, but I would love to do this more often if you don't mind" I said

"Anything you want your highness" he teased

"Oh my god, just shut up and watch the sunset" I said blushing

He laughed and we both turned to watch the sunset, then we laid down after the sun had set and looked at the stars.

By the time we got back to the castle, it was about three in the morning and we were greeted by a very unhappy Takanti.

"Y'know I would be scolding you right now but you two need to go to bed immediately, we have a very big day today" He said

"What do you mean?" Jason asked

"Both of your families will be coming to the castle today. And Aryln, your family has missed you very much" he said

Jason and I looked at each other and then at Takanti, I was in complete shock.

"Wait- my family as in, my real family? My birth one?" I said

"Yes, your birth family, now get to sleep!" He scolded as he teleported us into our room

After we had changed and were in bed, Jason fell asleep quickly but I couldn't go to sleep. After all this time, I was finally going to meet my family.
