~One year later~
They had a simple outdoor wedding. It was small, intimate.
Several times during the planning process they had been tempted to just elope and get it over with, but their mothers were insistent.
They vowed to love one another, to be faithful and strong together. They both cried the whole time.
The cake had rainbow layers on the inside. Nick took delight in smearing it on Charlie's horrified face.
They danced. It was awkward, but they giggled about it together, and then remembered another dance, in a dark room, when they had first said I love you. They held each other close.
Towards the end of the night Charlie unexpectedly stopped the band and pulled Nick over to the front. He sat down at the piano.
Nick was speechless as he heard the notes begin to take form.
It was the same song. From all those months ago. Chopin, Nocturne in E flat. From the day Nick had fallen in love with him.
Charlie had the same grace, the same beauty as he did then. Nick met his blue eyes and knew he was the luckiest man in the world.
