A/N: Hello! I am so sorry for the long delay but I had absolutely no inspiration. I am also sorry to say that this is going to be the end and I thank you all for coming on this journey with me. Chapter 10 will be the last chapter, followed by a short epilogue. Writing fanfiction makes me feel like I'm in highschool again and I've had so much fun. Maybe when season 2 comes out I will be re-inspired to write something new.
"Charlie we're going to be late, your hair looks fine!" Nick called, halfway out the door.
"Maybe if you'd hadn't been tousling it all day it would." Charlie appeared, shrugging on his coat and scowling in such an adorable way that Nick couldn't stay annoyed for long.
"Maybe if you weren't so stinking cute I wouldn't have to tousle it." He said, pulling the grumpy lad into a hug.
"Twat" Charlie said, with no real venom. He was trying to hide a smile.
"Let's go" Nick pulled him down the street towards the tube station.
It was eight months later and they were starting Tosca. (A/N hi I know I said in a previous chapter that it was a month away, but I changed it so the timeline makes more sense). Nick had gotten the part of Scarpia of course, and Charlie had only teased him a little bit about needing to change the script so the opera contained a gay romance. Ok maybe a lot.
But Charlie wasn't too upset about the heteronormative plot they had been enduring since rehearsals started. His life was now the best queer romance he could imagine.
He and Nick were staying over at each other's flats pretty much every night, Charlie had gotten to know Dan and Carl- Nick's flatmates- very well and even humoured them by joining in on their weekly poker game. Nick had begun to bring Nellie with him when he stayed with Charlie, and her funny antics and wonderful companionship made Charlie silently curse his parents for never letting him have a dog as a child.
Nick had tried to suggest that they officially move in together several times but Charlie always changed the subject before it could become reality. He loved Nick, and he badly wanted them to live together. But a small part of him was still scared.
Scared that Nick would get bored of him. Scared that this was all some temporary infatuation. Scared that moving in together would be a catalyst for destruction. That once Nick REALLY got to know him, he would want to leave. And moving in together would make that break up infinitely harder.
He knew it was irrational. He knew that Nick loved him, he knew that they practically lived together already and so far nothing, from his bedhead to his love of slightly burnt toast, had swayed Nick in the slightest.
Charlie watched Nick across the stage as they worked through the opera that night and couldn't help but smile. His boyfriend was so talented. And if he had thought the German singing was hot, Italian was even better.
At break Nick came over and leaned casually against the piano. Charlie was playing cat condo on his phone and Nick waved to get his attention.
"Tu sei il mio idolo Tosca, tutte le cose in te mi deliziano. La tua rabbia tempestosa e il tuo amore pulsante." He said smoothly.
Charlie felt his face growing very hot, "Are you going to tell me what that means or what?"
Nick grinned and leaned even closer to whisper in Charlie's ear "You are my idol Tosca, all things in you delight me. Your storming anger and your pulsing love."
