"DENIED," said the Border Customs Officer.
"What do you mean denied," I say.
Mr.Williams the Border Customs Officer looks into my eyes and says "you don't have the proper documents to enter the country".
"Well look again because I know for a fact that I have every document to enter this country. I am studying at the University of Hastings starting at the end of the month."
Mr.Williams looks into my eyes and then all I know is I am put into a Border Customs holding center in the next few minutes.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
As I enter the room there are four other people scattered throughout. As I am about to sit down I hear someone say, "Let me guess, you're another student who was denied entry".
I look to see where the voice comes from and my eyes make contact with one of the most attractive men I have ever seen. He's the type of guy that you can feel his presence in a room.
I chuckle and say jokingly "is it that obvious"?
"Well the University of Hastings hoodie could not have made it so obvious" the guy grinned at me.
I look down and pinch my hoodie, obviously forgetting what I was wearing and as I look back at him I laugh nervously. "Oh yeah, after the morning I've had I honestly forgot what I was wearing. So I'm guessing you're a student as well"?
He looks me up and down as he says, "Yeah I'm supposed to start university this month".
As I was about to ask him which university he goes to one of the Border Customs Officers walks in and tells him he is free to go.
Before he walks out the door, he turns to look at me and tells me "good luck".
Now as I sit in silence with three other people in the room, I decide to continue reading November 9 by Collen Hoover. I find it a little ironic that I'm reading this book since it shares my birthday. I finish the book within three hours of being in the holding room. Within that time two other people joined. I'm hoping that I can leave soon, I just want to be in my bed. As the spirits answered my call, the same Border Customs Officer as before entered the room and called me to follow her.
" — We're sorry again Ms.Herrera about the mix-up. Just sign these papers and you're all good to go," she tells me.
"It's okay, I understand you guys are just doing your job," I say.
"Okay, you're all set to go. Welcome to the United Kingdom and good luck at the University of Hastings, I hear it's a good university to go to."
"Thank you."
Four hours. Four hours wasted. I check the time and it's going to be 5 pm. It's going to take almost three hours to get to the university, great. As I walk to catch the train, I feel like I can finally breathe and relax.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
As expected I arrive at my dorm at 8:40 pm. I feel like death and I really want to sleep, but I know I should try to unpack my stuff. I quickly fix my duvet onto my bed and I give up halfway through unpacking my clothes into my closet. I decide to lay in my bed and watch Gilmore Girls. I tell myself to watch only two episodes since it's 10:08 pm and try to get some sleep.
... Well I'm six episodes deep into the show. What can I say, I reached one of my favorite spots in the show and I've tried to rest my eyes, but nothing works. I should have known better and bought some melatonin gummies when I had the chance.
Okay, maybe if I just power down my laptop and put my phone aside then I can actually get some rest. I am excited about tomorrow, well technically later today since it's 3 am, but anyways, as I start to close my eyes all I can think about is what tomorrow will bring.
