“She won’t come back, you know.”

“Hm?” Neal turned his head back at Johnny and met the barkeepers intense eyes as he pushed a Guinness in front of him.

“Your Emma. Haven’t seen her around in the past two weeks and I very much doubt that you coming by every evening to see if she shows back up is healthy for you.”

Neal rolled his eyes and took a sip of his beer.

“Look, mate, I am sorry that she did not want to see you again but you have to accept it and move on.”

“Why does everyone seem to think that I am moping after a girl that I had shared one night with? Yes, it was incredible but it has been almost three weeks now and I have other things to worry about right now.” Neal said and Johnny chuckled at him.

“Come on, Neal. You know you can’t lie to your favourite bartender. It is rude and against pub protocol.” Neal raised his brow.

“Look, I know that it is crazy okay? But I just felt this connection to her and I do believe in fate. So if I am supposed to see her again, then I will. Which has nothing to do with the fact that I come back to my favourite pub after stressful days of recording. If these things happen, then they are always at a time you would not expect them.” He clarified.

He tried to believe his own words as he said them. But the truth was, that he was getting rather anxious. He wanted to see her again so bad but he had tried to get her out of his head. And the combination of those complete opposites did not help him at all.

It was rather frustrating. He had considered picking up the phone time and time again but always chickened out. He had promised himself that he would give himself a month. If he had not forgotten about her by then or not seen her again by chance, then he would call her.

Because if she could invade his thoughts for so many hours of a day after only having been with her for one night and a blissful morning, then she was definitely special to him. And though he did not want to admit that, he wanted someone to be special to him again.

He had been heartbroken before several times and he had actually started to think that he might just try and get any thought of a stable relationship or even a loving romance out of his head, but who was he kidding? He was a hopeless romantic.

And he wanted someone to be by his side, someone to take care of and who would take care of him in return. Someone to spend lazy Sundays with and go on trips and adventures.

The problem was, that it was pretty tough for someone like him. He could hardly go out and date anyone that came along. Because ehe did have to face the fact that most people would want to be with him because of his fame.

And while he loved his fans, he did not want to be with someone who only liked him for that part of him. He wanted someone to love him for him. And Emma had seemed to be able to get to that part of him and see past the fact that he was who he was. And he missed that, he craved that. And he was scared that he had missed his chance to do that.

“You are not crazy for wanting to see her again, Neal. But sometimes you have to face the truth. She might not even be in the city anymore. And maybe that is why she did not want to get close to you. Because she had talked about leaving the times I had talked to her when she came by. And maybe that is what she finally did. Try and get her out of your head.” Johnny said with a sympathetic smile.

“I just can’t.” Neal said around a frustrated sigh. ”I know it is stupid, but I just can’t, and I don’t want to. Why should I not be allowed to be sad about the fact that I missed the chance to get to know an amazing person closer?”
