Beautiful song.
Neal gasped as he read those two words. They had been sent 30 seconds ago.
By Emma.
He spun around and stared at the crowd in confusion. She had to be there, somewhere. Finn kept on talking about random stuff but Neal’s heart was beating a million beats per minute as another text appeared.
Two your right, three rows down. Flashing.
Neal turned to his right and stared down into the crowd of people, trying to locate her. Suddenly he saw a phone flash repeatedly and he moved forward to try and see past the darkness and the blinding lights that were directed at him on stage.
He squinted his eyes while trying not to act to suspicious as he tried to make out faces. And then she flashed again and he saw her. She standing in the middle of the crowd, her small frame almost drowning in the sea of bodies but she stood still and proud as she looked back at him, a smile gracing her lips.
Neal could not stop the huge grin that overtook his face even as he was completely confused about how she even got to be there and actually text him. But he decided to not question that right now, being to happy that she was here. He was quick to shoot her another quick text as he turned his back to the crowd to not seem to suspicious as he walked back a bit and made it look like he went to grab some water.
Meet me after? Please.
He waited with a rapidly beating heart for her response which came back several seconds later.
Where?
He was ready to jump out of his skin in happiness.
Our pub? Will take me some time to get there after the concert but I’ll try my best to be quick.
Going for some Guinness?;)
He smiled as he responded.
I’ll tell Johnny to get the chocolate cake.
With that he shut off his phone and took a sip of water before trying to calm his breathing and stop himself from jumping up and down on the spot like a small kid that was getting a present. He could not believe this was actually happening. Finn was calling for him and he returned to his mate’s side with the biggest grin on his face as he picked up his guitar again.
“Someone looks happy.” Finn announced and Neal ripped the mic from him.
“Who would not be happy at such a beautiful day, with such a wonderful and lovely crowd? Am I right?!” He called out to big cheers and applause. Neal’s gaze drifted back to where Emma was standing, her eyes meeting his through the craziness of flashing lights.
“Well, if that is so, the I guess we should give the crowd something for their money!” Finn shouted and winked at Neal.
They both took up their guitars and Finn counted down from three before they both started strumming out a quick and fierce rhythm, a song of Mumford and Sons which they both loved.
As Neal and Finn belched out the words to I will Wait he could not help but look down at her direction more often than he should have. And she never broke his gaze as she moved her lips in sync with the crowd that was shouting back the lyrics at the duo on stage.
And his heart was beating faster than the rhythm that his fingers were strumming on the guitar in a frenzy of emotions. And as she laughed during the chorus he sincerely hoped that she really would wait for him.
***
Neal was exhilarated as he was finally on the way to his favourite pub, the endorphins from performing still rushing through his veins. He was absolutely buzzing. That always happened after a gig but this time there was something else, too.
