I woke up in a haze of sleep, dragging myself out of bed. I yawned while I went to find something to wear for the evening ahead. I grabbed a grey tunic with little pieces of sewn in amour.
As I walked out of the room, I was greeted by a little pixie named Nix. She worked in the grand household and had looked after me when the Grandmaster had not. She had bandaged my blistered hands, gently brushed my hair and said soothing words to me when I was distressed. And she sung the loveliest songs.
She led me to a chair and started to sing as she braided my hair. My worries instantly evaporated. Nix was the allowed to sing without punishment and I envied her for it
I headed out of the household towards the academy, and I hummed the song on the way there.
I was so carried away with the tune of the song and lovely evening breeze I nearly bumped into the small sprite barely the size of my thumb with sky blue hair and gentle hazel eyes. The sprite had her leg stuck in the gap of an archaic tree.
"You poor darling" I said as I gently loosened the sprites leg. While I was helping the sprite out of the tree, I noticed the sprite had two little wings coming out of her back. They were almost like an angels.
When the sprite got free and flew up, it looked back with admiration in its eyes. The sprite said something before it flew off, and it almost sounded like "thank you my princess."
"Must've heard wrong" I muttered to myself.
When I got to the academy I was greeted by Alissa. She told me Freya was running late.
As we were talking Waylen and his friends Marilla and brother Lance came up to us.
"Hi Pilvi, I am surprised you are still coming here, this is a faerie school" sniggered Marilla.
"I don't have time for your nonsense Marilla. Come on Alissa let's go inside." But just as we started strolling towards the class. Waylen laid out his arm to stop us. "Waylen please kindly remove your arm from our path before I remove it for you. "That is no way to talk to the son of the King of the flame throne." he replied.
I removed my dagger from the concealed pocket in my tunic and he jumped back.
As we continued walking to the classroom, Marilla shouted to Alissa "How unfortunate that she is your sworn blood sister," then laughed hysterically.
In Faerie land everyone has their place. Faeries dictate and Mortals obey (With the odd exceptions of course). but there is rarely a mix of both. And even though I have few human features with my long ashen white hair and gold eyes, I am still considered without a place. But it didn't matter, I had to focus on becoming the warrior the Grandmaster always believed I could be. I was given a place by him and if I ever was to get anywhere, I'd have to keep it.
I am feared by most and I have a reputation and respect. Not that I cared for any of that.
But Waylen the son of the Fire King had taken a disliking to my barely perceptible human features a few years ago, and him and his accomplices Alissa a faerie with apparent pixie blood, part of the water kingdom her cousin in line to the throne of Water. And of course, Lance the silent prince, second to the throne of Fire after his brother. Lance never said anything to encourage the two and their cruel doings. The Crudelis Trio would do anything to make me feel inferior as I was the leader of their rival team and if I stumbled or even slightly wavered, they were one step closer to winning.
