After the final bell, Egon warily heads to the back of the school. It is where he left his bike. Knowing Luke would be there, without question, makes his anxiety spike.
He doesn't have a plan. Doesn't know what he's going to say.
Its lie or reveal the truth. Or not say anything. Is that an option? No, he'd punch the words out of me. He's too persistent to let me get away with the silent treatment. I have to go ahead with this. Hope for a halfway decent outcome...Exiting the school, he spots the blonde immediately.
Luke is leaning against the building. He stands up straighter as soon he notices Egon's arrival.
To Egon's dismay there are students and teachers crowded all around. Seems it's due to football practice being moved in the vicinity.
Shit. Now what? I can think of only one possibility. This is fucked up. I can't believe I'm about to do this.Luke is standing in front of Egon, unnaturally quiet. He lacks his usual hostility. He resembles a beaten person without the bruises. As if his inner fire has been snuffed out.
It's baffling Egon to no end. This dramatic and sudden change. It does make Luke more approachable.
Luke.. quiet and approachable. I'm in some Twilight zone. Where nothing makes sense and everything gets flipped, turned upside down. Might as well proceed with this insane plan.
"I can't tell you or show you anything here, there's too many people."
I'm fully gonna regret this...
" You can walk with me to my house, I'll show you and answer your questions there."A sudden commotion and shuffling goes off onside in his backpack. Egon gives it a swift shake, hoping it would silence the heated frantic weasel. It's quite clear that Vin is 100 percent against this. To his relief, the noise and motion of his backpack settles.
Luke analyzes the backpack with his eyes. He shifts back to Egon, his demeanor remaining calm.
"Yeah, lead the way." Luke replies in a tired tone.
Egon walks next to his bike. Luke walks on the other side.
This is so awkward. Normally I love the quiet. But, this silence isn't natural, it's fucking foreboding, like shit's gonna hit the fan. The one guy who's so full of himself that he never shuts up, is closed off. Why?
"So, ummm, erm.. don't you have football practice?""No." An singular monotone answer
I've never been this happy that I live so close to school. Maybe the awkwardness will end once we're inside. Yea, no, doubt it. I'm about to show him a weasel who may or may not participate. Knowing Vin, he's most likely already in his own bag or playing dead. Or he'll be difficult and act like a ferret the one time I don't want him to.
"This is it, my house."
Luke follows him inside and into his bedroom.
Normally his Dad isn't home for another hour and a half, but he's been breaking routine, not as predictable. Thankfully there is no car parked in the driveway or garage. The house is empty.
He leaves his bedroom door open 3 inches, in case Dad sneaks home early.Luke takes it upon himself to sit on his desk chair. Egon sits down on his bed. He exhaled a nervous breath while unzipping his back pack.
Inside it, is a glowering weasel."I know. I know. In this situation, I think we need to be truthful. There is no "be a ferret" rule. You can be you."
Trying to pacify Vin
