Egon wrote out his essays throughout Sunday. Vin gathered household items in his bag, then had to return it all after being threatened. Giblet perfectly mimicked a harmonica. He played some Blues.
Time skip to Monday. An alarm startles both Egon and Vin awake with its incessant beeping.
Egon groans and fumbles for his phone. After finding it, he squints at the brightness of the screen. He promptly stops the obnoxious sound.
Vin stretches his arms forward and raises his rump in the air.
"Why must we wake up now?"Egon is not only rubbing his eyes, he rubs his whole face. Tousling his morning messy hair.
"I have school today. And I need to figure out what I'm going to do with you while I'm there. If I leave you here, you'll literally steal the entire house. No way I'm leaving you unattended for 7 hours. Wish you were well behaved like Giblet."In an instant, Vin switches to bright eyed and bushy tailed.
"That would be a dream come true if I could make music like he does. I can't even whistle. Listen to this, does it sound anything like whistling?"
A grotesque wet sound sloppily leaves Vin's lips. The sound is resonating in Egon's ears.
"Never do that again. That's the sound I imagine a giraffe makes when it dies.""I highly doubt that. A dying giraffe is more like...".
Vin begins mimicking a choking bleating sound."Stop! You'll make my ears bleed."
Egon knows he needs to get Vin's attention on something else.
Damn weasel sounds like he's tuning himself up to make more hideous sounds.
"What if I told you I'd bring you to school with me?"Vin squeals in delight. He halfway manages a backflip in glee. He does not land on his feet. Winds up flat on his back. Feeling no pain due to Egon's bed cushioning him, he continues his squeals of joy.
Yep, my ears are officially bleeding now.
"There will be conditions. You MUST adhere to. I'm fucking serious too, Vin. You have to stick to my conditions the entire time. If you don't, there will no longer be a WE. It'll go back to ME. You can also get me in deep shit if you don't do as I tell you. Am I Clear!?"Vin places his hand under his furry chin.
"Yes, yes, there's always conditions. Lay them on me."Egon raises an eyebrow, still highly dubious.
"You will stay inside my backpack at all times until I give you the all clear. You must stay as still as you can. I can't have anyone see my backpack moving. Not a sound out of you either. Normally I stash my backpack in my locker, I'll take it to classes with me today. Knowing you, you'll find your way out of my locker. Do not use that bag of yours for anything! And lastly, I have to close it up, I can't keep it open. Can't risk someone being able to see inside."
Vin's eyes widen, his body visibly starting to shake."What is it? Are you afraid of tight spaces? The dark?" Egon inquires.
He sympathizes, knowing how it is to be afraid of situations."No, it isn't that. I'm fine with the dark and tight spaces. It's the feeling of , er .... being trapped. Of, not knowing or seeing a way out."
Vin feels a twinge of embarrassment after expressing this flaw of his.
I trust Egon with this sensitive information. Hell, I've placed my life and future in the boy's hands.Egon ponders for a few seconds.
"What if I make a small peephole? One that you can see out of. The hole will be small enough no one can see in. As long as it doesn't cause you to squirm around in there. You think that'll help you not feel as trapped?"Vin mulls it over, then shines a smile up at Egon.
"Yes, I'm certain that will work. I'll be able to see around me. If things go to shit I can make the hole bigger to escape, ergo...not trapped.""You won't do that though, right? Nothing will go to shit to the point where you leave that bag, got it!?" He glowers down at Vin.
"Yes, it's only theoretical thinking to diffuse the fear. All hypothetical. No worries. Ah, one question. What about when I gotta pee?"
Egon had forgotten to factor in Vin's bodily functions.
"You'll have to hold it until I use the restroom. I'll use a stall so no one sees you. We will make it work. I'll time the bathroom breaks often enough."
Can this work? Will it work? Maybe I should make it a sick day. Stay home. But, what about tomorrow and the next day? It might take time to get Vin back where he belongs. He did behave fairly well on Saturday while we were out. He can do this. What else can I do but believe he can do it? He's going to school with me.... What has my life come to?Vin nods his approval. "Sounds like we will be taking our relationship to the next level."
Surprisingly, Egon smirks. He's been growing accustomed to Vin's nature.
"There's no relationship and no levels. Sorry to disappoint."
Gathering the clothes he'll wear to school.
"I'm taking a shower. And no, I'm not telling you this so you can join me."
Giblet is attempting to roll up a pile of books. Humming what sounds like the Mission Impossible theme music.
Egon rushes out of the bathroom, all dressed for school, hair damp and combed. He jabs at his backpack with scissors, making a peep hole for Vin.
"All set, hop in, I don't want to be late."Before entering Egon's bag, Vin wraps his arms around Giblet and gives him a giant hug.
Giblet's googly eyes bulge out even further and his fluff caves in. Vin releases his hold.
"Don't go on any adventures without me." Giblet springs back to his original state and hums.
