Y/n pov
I actually never thought that she would come, but there she is. In the middle of the night, deep into the woods. Mine and Loki's condo is just on the outskirts of the woods, so i could hear her come.
"You came" i say as i appear behind her, leaning against a tree. The late summer breeze makes the park swings swing.
"Yeah, i guess i did" she says with an uncertain smile. She takes a step close to me, for me to take a step away as well. I'm afraid that if she comes too close i won't be able to fight against every instincts that tells me to follow her over the edge of the world. "Why can't you just come back with me?"
"You know why, it'll only hurt you"
"You're hurting me by leaving" she says and i know it's true, it hurts me as well.
"But that's a pain that'll go away, if you get hurt in battle or worse. I don't know what i would do if that happened"
"But what about you, what do you think i would do if i lose you or if you got hurt?"
"That's not the same, you're human, i'm not. You get hurt, you risk death. I get hurt, i walk it off"
"I know but please, just come back to the tower with me. I promise i'll be careful, i'll make myself banned from any mission and we can spend our days together. We can run away, away to a place where no one knows us. We can be together." but it's a fool's errand. To dream like that.
"How can you be like this, i left and you now act as if nothing happened" i comment on her behaviour, and it's true.
"I've run out of tears Y/n, i just know that i want all the time we've got together" she tries to please but i still don't see it. But it means that she understood my words. That my days are counted... but as far as i know, they've always been.
"You know that i said that after i said that i'm doing what's best for everyone. It might not seem like it now, but in the future you will understand why i've done what i've done" i say with a serious smile, if that's even possible. She takes another step my way and this time i don't back off, i can't, it's like i'm stuck. Like she's holding me to the ground.
"Just come home with me" she says and i get distracted by her face that i don't notice her laying her hand on my arm at first. The thing i was afraid of is happening, i can't back away. She pulls me in for a soft kiss and it feels so right, making me wrap my arms around her waist as hers are around my neck... but it's all a distraction. One second we're in the forest and in the next we're in a cell back at the tower. It takes another second for me to realise that she teleported us, that she does remember how to use our powers.
"What the hell Natasha" i say and pull myself apart from her. I can't believe i let myself be tricked by her. "Do you have any idea of what your risking here?"
"I did what i had to not lose you again. I don't care if you're gonna hate me for the rest of my life, but it's better to have to live it without you" she says and my heart melts by the words but quickly freeze up again. "I'm really sorry" she adds before a syringe pierces through my neck, making my whole body tense up.
"Son of a..." i breathe out before everything goes black. I don't feel anything, not someone's arms, not the cold hard floor... nothing. Like i'm drifting away... from something. What is it i'm drifting away from?
Helen pov
"Agent Romanoff has requested you in the medbay" FRIDAY says out o f the speakers and me, as well as the Avengers, all look up at each other. "Now" i don't hesitate and they follow me as we make it down in two elevators. Quiet. But as soon as i enter the medbay behind Tony, almost walking into him as he stops in his tracks.
"What the hall Nat, i thought you were gonna talk to her, give her a chance to explain. Not kidnap her back here" Bucky says, exposing that he knew what was happening.
"So you lied to me about why he was in your room?" Wanda asks but i still don't know who we're talking about. Then Tony moves and i see Y/n lying on one of the best, unconscious. Without a second through i walk over to her and meet Natasha's worried gaze.
"What happened?" i ask as calmly as i can to keep her calm. Not that it seems to work.
"High dose of IL-2" i just look at her, dumbfounded.
"Isn't that a cancer medicine?" Clint asks as he also walks over to us.
"I know, but it's what they used to knock her out in the past" she starts and then Bucky walks over to us.
"From what i know it's supposed to keep her human for a few days." he says and i look questiongly at him. What the hell is she? If she's not human. "I heard things"
"What the hell, do the two of you care to explain for the rest of us" Tony says and Thor, Wanda and Steve agree. Bucky and Natasha meet each other gaze and seem to decide something.
"Y/n left a letter the day she left, and she left one earlier as well. With one for Nat to meet her" she starts but gets interrupted by some green smoke. One second every weapon are faced against the man who appeared, Loki.
"Y/n? What the hell did you do to her?" he asks with a worried look on his face, his whole body radiates worry about the woman on the sickbed. He clearly actually cares for her.
"Brother" Thor begins but he won't let her with his gaze.
"I'll ask again, Romanoff, what did you do?" he asks again and Natasha just seems confused, more than the rest of us.
"IL-2" i answer instead and his gaze went off her and onto me. His glare was intense but still thankful that i answered him.
"All she wanted to do was leave with me, why couldn't you just let her"
"She was leaving with you?" Natasha asks, making every intrigues for an answer.
"Of course she was"
