a sudden flame of anguish rises inside of me
i startle at this, as a ghost of a hand touches my shoulder,
as i turn, as i see a vision of you
crying, smiling.
goodbye.
your lips form the words, but i hear no sound,
then, quick as you were to make a joke,
to bring a smile to me,
youre gone.
as i look up, searching for you in some sign
i see a silhouette rise against the clouds,
a swift, fitting, for your quick jabs at me,
for your laughter-filled insults
it moves off, against the sky,
off into the heavens,
where,
by some unwritten message,
i know you lie in now.
and i hold back tears,
i regret not travelling on with you,
i feel guilt swallow me, as i regret all the time i missed
with your smile.
