time skip to the first ultrasound!
It was 6 months into the pregnancy (i'm sorry if that's not time for an ultrasound idk 😭😭) and Miguel was freaking out more and more as the pregnancy progressed. We were in the waiting room at the doctor's office, when I noticed Miguel was cracking his knuckles and bouncing his knee a lot. I put my hand on his leg. He turned his head over to me. I gave him a sympathetic smile. "Hey... what's up?" I asked him. He hesitated, finally saying, "Nothing, it's just uh, I don't know why I'm so nervous." He laughed. I smiled, saying, "It's okay, nothing to be nervous about." He smiled, holding my hand. A nurse walked to the doorway, saying, "Y/n? We're ready for you." Miguel and I looked at each other. He nodded, smiling.
The second that we saw the baby on the screen I turned to Miguel. His eyes were wide, and he was on the verge of crying. He smiled, saying, "Oh my god, that's my kid. Holy shit that's so cool!" I laughed, kissing him on the hand. We sat there watching the baby for another few minutes. Eventually Miguel whispered to me, "Do you want to know if it's a boy or girl?" I turned to the nurse. "Is it a boy or a girl?" I asked. The nurse looked at the screen for a second, then smiled. "It's a little girl." She said. Miguel gasped, then kissed me on the forehead. "We're going to have a daughter!" He said, smiling, trying his best to hide the excitement.
After the ultrasound, we went out shopping for the baby's clothes, toys, furniture, etc. When we finally came back home, we started setting up the empty room to become the baby's room. Miguel put all the furniture together, because he wouldn't let me touch any of it, scared that I would tire myself out. I set up all the clothes and toys for her.
When we were done, we basically threw ourselves on our bed. Miguel was kissing and tracing my stomach while I was running my fingers through his hair. After a minute or so, I asked him, "Miguel, we haven't thought about what the baby's name is going to be." "Oh yeah, we should probably come up with something." He said. After a few minutes he finally said, "How about Carmen?" I smiled and responded, "I love that name. Carmen it is." He looked up at me and smiled.
