The weather is funny, sometimes it works with you. It likes to mimic your mind, just like everyone else around you but, there is truly no limit to it. You recall all the moments in which you felt joy, victory; whenever a new person adored you, the weather seemed to be a representation of that. It was doing it again, right then, you crying on the ground in front of the council, having just lost the person that had parented you for the most of the last 6 years. Having lost all your accolade, having lost your status. Having lost who you were. It's like the weather was throwing it all in your face.

It hurt. It would be a lie to say it didn't hurt. But, when you felt that sudden cover of warmth coming from Violet's body pressed against yours, from her arms placed around you, almost like a shield, the pain stopped. You felt peace. You felt...love.

Your words came out in whispers. "I want to be mad at you, Violet." You waited a moment before you finished. "But you don't let me."

She didn't respond. You expected a snarky remark, some joke to throw the whole thing under the rug. Part of you wanted it. But she didn't speak. She just hugged you tighter. Hid her face behind yours, pressing it hard against the fabric of your shirt. You heard her muffle a whimper as she let her words out. "I'm sorry."

The words were gentle. They were comforting, but they were sad. She was sad too. You hadn't even taken the time to think about what she was feeling. How did the meeting go? Where did Caitlyn go?

You shouldn't be thinking about this. This bitch didn't deserve it. So, why were you taking your hands off the ground to place them around her arm? Why were you hugging her back? Why did you press your head against hers? Why were you feeling love?

You weren't supposed to feel love for anyone except for Sophia. Mel was an exception to the rule in specific occasions but that was out the window now too. You had no time to think of a reason why. You were overcome with the feeling, like it was water, and you were drowning in it.

"Don't apologize, I already forgave you." You muttered out.

Her tears had grown heavy, almost like they were weighing on you when they fell. She was crying, and so were you. You shared the feeling and it weighed on the both of you at the same time.

Getting up was tough.

Actually, no. It wasn't the getting up that was tough. It was letting go. Neither of you wanted to let go, you didn't want to feel cold, you didn't want to lose the warmth of each other. Not a second time.

And you didn't. As soon as you both got up she put her arm over your shoulder. There were no barriers, no implications of anything beyond that. No need for it either. Just her and you wanting to feel each other's presence.

Getting home was instinctive, you didn't think about the possibility of not calling it home anymore until you got there. You saw the gates unlocked and the guards nowhere in sight. You wanted to cry. This had been your home for years, your safe place. And now, it was gone too.

Part of you left in that moment. It didn't really come back when you saw the note in the guard post that read "Y/N, I don't know what happened but you have my address if you need any help. Mel was furious when she told us to leave post. The keys are under the mat. I might get in trouble for doing this, but I can't get myself not to do it. I'll miss you, kid."

You looked at Violet after you finished reading it. She had gotten a glimpse of it but didn't know what it said. She grabbed your hands. "We'll find a place to spend the night. I don't care where. I just want you there with me."

You smiled through the tears. It wasn't like the other ones, this smile was genuine. "We already have."

You walked up the stairs holding her hand. Found the keys and opened the door to see your apartment, exactly how you had left it. The bed was made, which you had not done, but everything else was in place. The bombs were on the shelves replacing books, the portraits of boats and wars that Mel had given you were still shown proudly hanging from the walls. It was all were it was supposed to be, like nothing had changed at all. It was nice to allow yourself that kind of delusion.
