The elder said,
"Well you see, a couple weeks before the attack Asher came to our village and gave us a letter from your parents. Asher then said to us to find you if anything happened to them. When I asked why couldn't he give the letter to you and he then said that tensions were high between the werewolves and vampires. He said that your parents thought they were going to attack soon..."
I then yelled,
"IF THEY KNEW THEN WHY DIDN'T THEY PREPARE BETTER?!"
"Oh they did prepare pretty well but they expected them to attack them head on not by a surprise attack!"
I took a deep breath and said,
"That makes sense...."
"Then I said couldn't she be dead.....there is no point in looking then. Asher said yes you could die but you would be alive again after a while. Then I said how is that possible?! He then said to keep this a secret and to make sure not to tell anyone. I said I promise to keep whatever he tells me a secret and he then explained to me how their daughter is a phoenix.
I then heard my parents yell at the same time,
"A PHOENIX?!"
The elder and I chuckled and the elder said,
"Oh that's right. I bet Flameheart didn't tell you yet that she is a phoenix...."
I then said,
"When I found out my other parents died I was to upset to remember to even tell them. I was really hoping that they were alive but after I heard the news it just broke me..."
"Understandable. I would be pretty upset too if I were in your shoes...."
"I guess I sacrificed myself for nothing then..."
"What do you mean?!"
"I pushed my brother out of the way when he was about to get killed and instead the werewolf killed me. That's how I died....I just wanted to save my brother after what happened to my sister in my first life..."
My mom then said,
"At least you tried...I bet they lived a little longer because of you!"
I smiled at her slightly and said,
"That's one way to put it I guess. I wish I could have done more though."
My dad then said,
"I think you did whatever you could and I think what you did was so brave!"
"Thanks for trying to make me feel better...it's helping a tiny bit. I still feel pretty horrible though."
The elder then said,
"Well I guess I could try to distract you and continue to tell you what Asher told me."
"That's fine by me! I want to hear what Asher said to you anyways!"
"Okay I'll continue then. I asked him how it is even possible that two vampires together could even have a phoenix as a daughter. But then he explained to me that they found an unusual egg and decided to take it and care for it since it looked like its mother wasn't around. He said they cared for her as their own daughter and then later found out that she was a phoenix. He then explained that they knew she would be devastated if they died and that's why he gave the letter to me just in case they couldn't give it to her themselves."
I then asked,
"Wouldn't the letter be huge though?"
"Oh it was pretty big but he knew we could put a shrink seal on it to make it so we could read it. That's how we read books from other places after all."
"That makes sense!"
"Oh I should get the letter now then! Be back in a couple minutes!"
"Okay...."
I rubbed my eyes so I could see better from all the crying. I want to see what the elder looks like once he comes back after all.
I then asked my parents,
"Is there a reason why the fairies didn't help our village when the elder found out that it might get attacked?"
My dad then said,
"Oh I remember asking the same thing to the elder before....the elder told us that Asher refused their help after the elder said they could help them. He said that the werewolf elder didn't want them to get involved in their problems. He didn't want us to get hurt or killed because we helped them. It was a problem between the vampires and the werewolves after all!"
"Oh okay. I would have been pretty angry if I heard they asked for help and the elder said no."
My mom then said,
"That's understandable. I would be angry too if my family asked for help and they said no and because of that my family got killed...."
"I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. How long did the war start? I'm guessing it hasn't been a while because the elder talked to Asher and I know fairies don't live for to long."
My dad then said,
"It's been around fifty years I think?"
"FIFTY YEARS?! Shouldn't the elder be dead then?!"
"Oh I guess you don't know....."
My mom then said,
"That's not surprising. Only fairies know this after all...it would be pretty bad if anyone found out that secret!"
"Are you going to tell me or not?!"
My parents chuckled and my dad said,
"Well you will find out eventually so I guess I can tell you a little earlier than any other kids. I bet you didn't notice the jade necklace around the elders neck. It was hard to see from all the crying you did."
"No I didn't. I'm guessing the necklace has something to do with how the elder hasn't died yet?"
"Yep you are correct! You see there is a certain kind of rock that could contain your soul after you die. There are a limited amount of rocks so only the elder fairies have one in each village. There is also a seal on the rock to keep your soul from leaving the rock right after it comes in."
"Wait...does that mean the elder fairies become immortal?!"
