Magic
When you reincarnate into the world of your favourite book, as a mage, naturally you have to try to sense the magic around you.
That is exactly what little Elise did ever since she made the flowers appear and first felt magic. She doesn't yet know what magic is, but it feels warm and comfortable, like the soft hand of nature.
It's been 3 years since she left her mother's embrace. So far she's been training her magical senses. They have become fairly keen, able to sense magic even 10 meters away; it helps if you're in a house full of wondrous magic.
However, now it's finally time to start controlling it. Not externally, of course, purely internal. She sat down cross-legged on her bed and closed her eyes, feeling the magic within.
Naturally, most of it had accumulated in a region near her stomach. Her heart and brain also had quite a bit. The rest of her body only had faint traces.
She focused very hard on the magic in her abdomen, trying to make it move. It took a few minutes, but she finally got a sliver out of it.
Grafually, she sent it to her heart. Because this was her first time, the process was excruciatingly slow. Once it reached her heart, however, it sped up quite a bit with the help of her bloodflow. She sent it through her veins all over her body.
At first this caused her delight, but then she noticed something that made her frown. The sliver of magic was getting smaller and smaller, eventually disappearing.
She repeated the process, this time focusing on the sliver of magic. Because of her keen senses, she noticed that it didn't disappear as she initially thought, but instead it got absorbed into her cells.
Just these two iterations made her very tired and sweaty. She lay back down and breathed deeply. Just then a knock was heard and her door opened. She quickly dat up again.
In walked her adoptive grandparents with a little cake floating in front of them with three candles on top.
"There's our lovely little birthday girl!" Perenelle said, love and care lacing her every syllable.
"We got you a little something." Nicholas added with a proud smirk. "We made it ourselves."
He held out his gloved hand, and within it lay a smooth small silver sphere, about the size of a golf ball. Elise tilted her head at the strange object. She gingerly took it in her hands and looked up at Nicholas.
"That's no ordinary ball of silver. If you hold it and think of something really hard, it will turn into it. I also made it so it can't become dirty. As an added bonus, I made it recognise only the first person who touched it. If you lose it, you need only think of it and it shall appear before you. Why don't you give it a try?" Nicholas said with a gentle smile.
Elise nodded and closed her eyes. She thought hard of an image, and clearly felt a bit of her magic leave her hand. Afterwards some more automatically traveled from her tummy to fill the gap in her hand.
Suddenly, the silver ball turned into a spoon just as Elise's stomach grumbled, making the elder couple laugh.
"I guess you're a bit hungry. I'll get some plates." Perenelle waved her hand. Three dessert plates and two dessert forks came flying into the room, stopping next to her.
Elise looked up from her transfiguring spoon with a wide grin and said, "Merci beaucoup, Mamie et Pépé!"
She got up and hugged her adoptive grandparents very tight.
"Hoho, you are learning French very quickly. Perhaps we should speak it more frequently?" Nicholas suggested.
"Ehehe." Elise merely giggled then focused her attention on the cake. She recognised it to be a Black Forest Cake. One of her favourites.
Nearly salivating from her mouth, she looked at her grandparents with pleading eyes. They complied and cut it into pieces, giving Elise the biggest one.
After thoroughly enjoying the cake, Perenelle suggested they go to Diagon Alley, immediately sparking Elise's interest. She quickly held her Transilver, as she's calling it now, turning it into a simple round bracelet.
"Let's go, quick!" Elise grabbed her mamie's hand with unbounded excitement. The elder giggled and held her close.
"You've never traveled via Apparition before, so you might get a bit nauseous. Just hold on tight." Perenelle cautioned Elise, who held on tight and closed her eyes, focusing on what she's soon to feel.
With a surprising silence, Perenelle and Elise disappeared into thin air. Nicholas soon followed, just as quietly.
Elise was very surprised. From what she read in her previous life, she knew apparating was supposed to be very uncomfortable. This was not. She felt as if she was gently held in mother nature's hand, carried to her destination.
They arrived in Diagon Alley with a swish. Considering they were right next to Slug & Jiggers, Nicholas said he wanted to go in to buy some ingredients he's short of. Perenelle was about to suggest to Elise to go to
