IMPORTANT>>> hiiii ok so I had to redo this chapter firstly because the writing was TERRIBLE and secondly it didn't really make a lot of sense so I kinda tweaked it to be more practical and realistic(as if it isn't unrealistic as is)

also while you're reading this(if you know the adrastus lore and shit) this whole book is not gonna be the same as the actual lore and probably will have a way less crazy supernatural plot. So basically no evil demon possession stuff. Sorry baes it wont fit with what I had in mind, but my plans for this story are pretty rad so stay tuned.

"Det være seg Guds hånd skal jeg nekte, da en å kontrollere er en av svakhet. Ære til din frihet min herre."
A prayer could be heard, a voice dispersed among the walls of the church.
I had snuck in to explore a weird church like building I had originally thought was abandoned, by the time I entered the main room I figured out it wasn't empty. I was too stubborn to turn back because of pride, unfortunately for me. The woman of which had spoken began to rise from her kneeling position and walked among the altar, sipping from a wine glass. I carefully made my way around the seating area trying to keep as low-key as possible. I had eventually snuck into a back room which had an array of ores and pendants. How peculiar... It was beautiful! I appreciated the stones before heading back on track. I continued down a hall to try and find something that would make this snoop worth while. I heard faint footsteps behind me and froze, I turned around to check behind me but the coast was clear.
I sighed... thank god.
Just as I turned back around I squealed to see the woman from earlier standing in front of me looking pissed.
"Who the hell are you?" I swallowed the lump in my throat as I glared up at her. She was tall and intimidating, oh god.
"Im- uhh... leaving!" She grabbed the hood of my jacket as I turned around, pulling me back.
"Not so fast. I didn't get to show you what happens to people who show up uninvited.."
She raised her hand as if she was going to hurt me
"I- wait! please-"
I shivered a bit and squeezed my eyes shut in fear of what she was gonna do to me. I heard the women shout a curse in a foreign language, just then I heard the presence of another person behind her approach.

"Woah, sister. That is no way to treat a guest" It was a taller man with long black hair and a clear tan complexion, he spoke calmly and patiently in contrast to the woman. She growled under her breath, letting me go. "Father, You don't understand. They're a trespasser." She glared at me making me quickly step back and look down at the ground to avoid eye contact.
"I see. Thank you for telling me." The man placed his hands among my shoulders, pulling me away from the clearly angry woman.
"I'll handle it from here, you may go now." He spoke calm and collectedly. The woman then departed in anger as he suggested.
"Why don't you come with me and we'll discuss a more practical punishment."

The tall man spoke, urging me to follow him.
And I thought I was gonna get out of this easy, oh well.

He lead me back into an office located down the hall, throughout the walk I was completely silent out of fear that I was gonna get hurt, or worse. After we entered the office he shut the door behind us and ordered me to sit down across from him at a table. I fidgeted with my fingers while trying to think of a way to quickly end the interaction safely and leave without any bodily harm. I thought for a bit before my thoughts were interrupted.
"You don't need to worry, I know you have no ill intentions." Said the man calmly.

He cleared his throat before he yet again spoke. "I am the priest, as you could have probably inferred. My associates call me father."He paused for a moment to... inspect me?
"You don't belong here. You're trespassing, so I presume something must have peaked your interest?"
"Yeah... I suppose." I looked to the side, still avoiding eye contact. His demeanor may have been softer but something about him still had me uneasy. He was just as intimidating as his sister in a whole new way. He leaned back in his seat as he looked me up and down. I shivered a bit, not locking eyes for no more than a second at a time.
"You seem tense, I can tell the situation frightens you." Said the priest with an indifferent expression.
"Yeah, not 'cause I committed a crime or anything-... You're... not gonna call the cops, are you..?" I said as I looked up at him timidly, fearing the consequences of my actions.
"Negative," Said Adrastus.
"I believe in natural consequences, I also believe that maybe it's a good thing you ended up here."
I hummed as I relaxed my muscles a bit. I looked at him with a raised eyebrow, confused by his statement.
"Why do you say that?"
He glared deeply into my eyes, almost as if he was reading my whole character like I was a book. I felt like he knew my every thought
"I feel that you may be a stellar candidate for a certain position here, maybe you could do some good with your bold stupidity."
I would have felt offended by his insult if it wasn't so true. I leaned back in the chair with crossed arms, a look of confusion but also a look of "fair enough" on my face.
"How so..?" I spoke with slight hesitation.
"Maybe you could earn some profit by becoming a parishioner."
He was a very well-spoken man, I'll give him that.
"That seems quite generous, doesn't it?"
I remained unresponsive, not really knowing how to respond, yet he seemed unbothered. He leaned forward a bit, inching closer to my face before speaking again.
"Hm, how about I make you a deal?"
He leaned back again into his chair
"I'll hire you and you can live here forever serving us, in return I'll keep quiet and financially support you."

I awkwardly laughed. Not really believing what he said. Live here?? That's insane. Is this extortion? Blackmail?
"I- I already have a home, and a job!"

He calmly raised a brow.
"I assumed you were homeless. At most paycheck to paycheck."

Yikes, he was right though.
"Yeah but to live here forever? Thats not fair."

"Would you rather be in prison?"

He snapped back, slightly raising his voice causing me to flinch.
"Take your pick."

I was scared. Thinking back on it this was a terrible idea but I decided to make a run for it.
The priest sighed in annoyance as I started to run, as if I was only mildly inconveniencing him. I sprinted out the door running as fast as I could to the exit. I thought he had given up trying to keep me here for a moment until right as I reached the door I felt a stabbing pain in my backside. I let out a small yelp before I felt an immediate exhaustion which soon made me lose control over my limbs, causing my body to hit the floor. My consciousness slowly slipped away from me as footstep's approached me from behind.
"Imbecile."

I could hear the voice of the priest echoing in my ears as I drifted off to sleep, where I would then await whatever was to come after.
