Authors note:

Hey. Very sorry for my absence and my negligence to write. Lowkey I've been having this ultimate creative block that has like stopped me from drawing or writing for like weeks and it was the absolute worst, but thankfully I think its over now soooooo enjoy the new chapter!!

I was also inspired to draw Adrastus in a robe because I just so happen to be wearing the same one as I'm writing this!!! Twinning???
This fit might come up in a chapter sooner or later so remember this visual.

The whole time I was stood aside Adrastus, his eye on me like a hawk to make sure I didn't try to escape or tell anyone I was being held captive there, I mean I would too if I was him so I dont blame him. We all sat down except for Adrastus of who left me to sit next to his sister while he'd speak on the altar. I was scared out of my mind, she's gonna kill me. I could see here staring at me, like she was gonna say something.
"Why the hell are you out here? Why did Adrastus bring you here??"

I flinched as she spoke to me, panicking to think of a response.
"I- well he didn't say why- I just did what he asked!"

She raised her eyebrow at me and snickered.
"Consider yourself lucky that he found you before I did."

I gulped and nodded, remaining silent for the rest of the meeting.

-

Adrastus returned to me as soon as everyone left, talking with the sister in a foreign language before taking me with him down the hallway.
"let's get you some sleepwear."

I nodded, this dress definitely isn't the comfiest.
"Oh, right. Are you hungry? -perhaps?"

I turned fully toward him, the key word mentioning food alerting me, I was actually starving.
"Yeah actually, very"

"Good. I'm going to prepare dinner soon so I thought you'd assist me in the kitchen--with cooking."

I impulsively smiled, I loved making food and the idea of doing it with him was really nice.
"Oh, of course- Id be honored"

I had stammered a second before answering, a little surprised by his offer. I mean yeah, it's my job now to do chores and help out, but the way he presented it made it feel like I was doing it with him as an activity rather than as an act of service for him. Even if I was being delusional it was nice to believe.

He smiled and walked me
to the kitchen. As we began I noticed the sister had eavesdropped and was looking right at me before we turned the corner. I was a little startled by her eerily watching us like that.
"Have you ever had rokt las?"

He snapped me out of my thoughts with his question, to which I shook my head in response.
"No... what is it, seafood?"

...

My question might have been passive aggressively racist.
(get it? He's Norwegian? Norway?? the second largest seafood exporter in the world?? laugh. now)
It slipped out sorry! He slowly turned his head, glaring me directly in the eyes seeming to catch the shade I didn't mean to throw.
"Mhmm..... salmon. How did you know that?"

He hummed in response while speaking in a deadpan tone, clearly expressing his dissatisfaction with my comment. I froze and stammered with widened eyes.
"Ah- lucky guess...?"

He scrunched his nose at me and rolled his eyes, that being the last time he'd look at me for the whole walk to the kitchen. Guess it was deserved

Adrastus taught me how to make smoked salmon that night, and... he was actually kinda nice to me? Besides the few stern demands he was really patient, even though I was clumsy and spilled a few seasonings. Don't get me wrong- I still felt like a prisoner, but I felt human even if I wasn't an equal.
He gave me orders on what materials to fetch for him while he focused on the cooking part, sometimes switching spots so he could cleanup the dishes.
"This smells really good"

He gently smiled at me in response.
"Wipe off the counter."

I did as he asked with no complaint. The way he speaks to me sometimes gives me this adrenaline that makes me hear my own heart beat racing in my ears, but not in an entirely bad way.
When I finally sat down and tried the food I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was, I can't remember the last time I had a nice meal like this. I don't even like salmon all that much, I was just really hungry.
Adrastus took a notice to my reaction, giving me a side eye.
""What is it? seafood?""

He muttered, mimicking my racially
motivated witticism from earlier.
"Damn I get it..." I muttered back

His expression switched to a warm smile followed by a chuckle. I notice he covers his teeth every time he laughs.
"Watch your mouth, (L/N)."

I huffed, a smile starting creep onto my face. His laugh was contagious, I couldn't even lie.

I ate up every inch of that plate, it was delectable. Adrastus stood up and grabbed an additional plate of food and handed it to me.
"I'd like for you to bring this to my sister, her room is just around the corner"

I gulped, a drop of sweat dripping off my cheek. I have to go to her room? Alone??
"By myself? Aren't you afraid I'll make a run for it?"
I needed an excuse to avoid that psycho, Adrastus is already enough as it is.
"I know you're not dumb enough to try that."

Right. He wasn't gonna change his mind, he just awaited with crossed arms for me to do what I was told. So I did, very skittishly I made my way to her room. Before I got the chance to knock the door opened quickly, the sister peeking behind it.
I jumped at her sudden movement, and prayed she wouldn't bite me or something.
She looked like she was about to yell something until she saw the plate of food in my hands.
"I-I was told to bring this to you."

She slowly took the plate from me to examine it, then looking back at me suspiciously as if I had poisoned it. I was about to say something but she cut me off
"Thank you."

The door then abruptly shut in my face. Huh.
After that Adrastus was kind enough to walk with me to my room, leaving my night clothes on my bed. As I laid down to rest I stared up at the ceiling, reimagining everything that happened today. It felt almost normal, but yet tears still swelled in my eyes again. I missed home dearly, but it was better to cope with the change rather than grieve the loss forever. I calmed down and began to shut my eyes, the whole day replaying in my head one last time.
Thats when my eyes shot wide open.

How did Adrastus know my last name?!
