His darling is never to leave the den ever.
Although he isn't the best at making traps, he does have ways to keep them from leaving the den. (Mainly fear but there are other things he uses.)
He does have very dangerous venom but doesn't know how to control the flow of it so whatever he tries to inject will be overflowing with venom.
Any time he is in the den he always has his tail wrapped around his darling in some way.
Given that he is 28 feet long he has a lot to wrap around his darling.
He does bring his darling random things he finds from time to time. (From rocks to things from campsites.)
He won't let anyone within a few miles of the den.
The den itself is just a shallow cave filled with random soft things he found in order to make a sort of nest. There is a random pile of bones scattered about.
