PROMPT

Despite the quiet night outside, the party inside was bustling. Women were dress in stunning gowns, men in finely tailored suit, each of them wearing masquerade masks. With animated movements and bright faces, they spoke in circles. Some enjoyed themselves with boisterous laughter, stimulated by heavy alcohol consumption, while other giggled to themselves.

The dance floor was filled with energetic dancers, matching the band's lively music. They turned and flowed in a chaotic, yet organized, fashion. Fabric tossed about, fluttering against their momentum.

Standing against the wall, I savored the scene. I always cherished parties such as these, when even nobles tossed their statuses aside for a few hours.

As a noble myself, balls were a requirement to attend, but I preferred to observe them from a distance. I had not considered joining the crowd in the center until a man approached me with a hand extended. I had not noticed him before, so I was startled. He had intense amber eyes and deep hair that was slicked back. He was so pale it was a bit unsettling, but his confidence and his firm eye contact drew me in. So, I took his hand, and he led me onto the dance floor.

He spun me around, momentum flung me out, and he pulled me back towards him. We ended the song at arms length apart. His gaze was so intimidating that I had to look away.

Movement caught the edge of my vision. My head snapped towards a large window. In the blink of an eye, a hooded figure scurried by the window. Then, another. And another.

I tried to pull away from the man's grasp to investigate, but he tightened his grip. When I looked back, his eyes were a shade of blood red.
