Mina spent her entire trip overthinking about her relationship, things weren't always like this. When she met San in college he was a free spirit that took her out of her comfort zone. They had a very stable relationship; Mina would rely on San whenever her parents were giving her a headache and San relied on her for everything else. She was aware of the changes the relationship had suffered but she no longer wanted to keep hurting the love of her life. During her trip to London, Mina had called her father to explain generally what they were going through. In the conversation she took full responsibility and almost begged him not to affect his business. She wanted to leave San, even though she felt in debt with him. Mina became a recognized lawyer thanks to the firm San inherited; after this breakup she would have to start building her career again from the ground up.
She was back in Calabasas, ready to have her final conversation with San. Several minutes had gone by but she was still finding the courage to get out of the taxi. After talking things out with him she would pack her things and leave back to Korea, where her parents were expecting her.
She finally got out of the cab and walked towards her house. As she walked inside she heard a couple of voices coming from the kitchen. She surely recognized San's voice but the other male was a new voice. When she reached the kitchen, what she saw made her world collide. There he was, her boyfriend kissing another man. She felt short of breath, the words couldn't come out.
- San! What the hell is this? - Mina finally talked.
- Mina? I didn't know you were back... When did you get here? - San didn't know what else to say. He was caught with Wooyoung, in his house, kissing.
Wooyoung was so confused, he didn't recognize her face nor did San mention her before. - Who is she, San? -
- Of course you didn't know I was back and it shows. I'm his girlfriend, who are you?! - Mina made a particular emphasis on the last word.
- Girlfriend? San, what the fuck is wrong with you? You brought me here, where you live with her?
- Woo, I can ex... - San was interrupted by Wooyoung, who slapped him across his face.
- Don't even pull that card on me. I gave you enough time to come clean and you still did this. I thought you were actually different. - Wooyoung's voice was cracking. He wasn't sure if it was the rage or the disappointment.
- Wooyoung, just listen to me! - San tried grabbing his arm.
- You don't owe me any explanations. Give them to her, she's the one that cares about you. - San grabbed his things from the couch, leaving the house filled with humiliation and a broken heart. He had hoped that San would be different and love him the way he felt he deserved. Another failed attempt to love, he thought.
Inside San's house the tension was growing. Mina still couldn't believe what she saw. In all the years they spent together cheating was never a situation. They were madly in love with each other, therefore, there was no need to look for anyone else.
- San, I don't get it. What is this? How long has this been going on? - Mina came closer to him.
- Mina, listen... Our relationship has been struggling for the longest time. I know I had no right to do this, but I met him during your trip. We went out for drinks and spent some time together. - As he collected his words, he felt this giant shame cloud form on top of him.
- San I know we're struggling but why didn't you talk to me about it? - Mina's eyes were filled with tears. This is the last thing she expected as a welcome.
- Mina, we don't even talk anymore. All we do is argue and everything turned so unhealthy. I can't keep doing this anymore, it's not good for any of us. -
- I am very much aware of the situation I've put you in and how I have neglected our relationship. I just... I just don't feel happy anymore, but I didn't know how to properly end things. - Mina broke into tears. San couldn't help but pull her into a hug. Mina was alone in California and he was afraid about what would happen to her after this.
- Mina I can't put into words how sorry I am. I know I should've ended things with you before trying anything else. I got carried away, I truly am sorry. - San tried holding it in, but some tears also fell from his eyes.
- Can I ask you one last thing? -
- Yes, of course. Anything you want. - San wiped her tears as she looked at him.
- Do you love him? - The question froze San. He hadn't put a name to his feelings for Wooyoung, but he did know things were different around him.
- I can't answer that Mina. All I can tell you is that I really like him and our chemistry is genuine. -
Mina had a hard time facing their new reality. This was the moment they took separate ways. She still loved San as well, but she knew their relationship had no hope.
- I think we both know what this means. right? -
- Yeah, I guess so. - San gave Mina a sad smile. He didn't visualize his relationship ending this way. - You can keep the house, I'll find an apartment to stay in for the time being. -
- No need. I'm going back to Korea tomorrow. I told my parents we were ending things and they accepted me back home. -
- But what about... - San's first thought was his business.
- You don't need to worry about it. I talked to my father about the firm and he agreed on keeping a business relationship with you. - Mina knew how much it cost San to get to the place he's at, she wouldn't end his career like that.
- Thank you Mina. For everything... I really spent my best moments with you. I hope we can still be colleagues at least. - San caressed her face, that face that he once loved.
- What do you mean? Of course, we will still kick ass together at the courts. - Mina gave him a tight hug before going upstairs with him to pack the rest of her things.
