several days before the Shelby's went to Griffin
Katy walked into the pub she had seen on the tour her cousin had given her. They both sat at the bar discussing home life ''any men'' her cousin asked giggling
''I mean there is one'' she giggled looking at the ground blushing
''go on then tell me about him'' her cousin shouted excitedly
A few of the others at the pub gave them a weird look however one women leaned forward and listened intently
''well he's a looker, he's handsome and charming oh and he totally going up in the world he's got this steady business between me and you I don't think its exactly legal but he refuses to let me be part if that side'' she sighed dreamily
''ohh what's his last name maybe ill have heard of him''
''I don't think so he's an orphan so he doesn't have much family''
''oh no'' her cousin looked sad ''poor boy''
''I'm thinking off getting his name tattooed on me J Shelby'' Katy giggled
''Katy that's terrible idea you know girls ant supposed to get tattoos'' her cousin whispered
looking around realising the Shelby family where watching from where they were standing by the door leading to there private room
''oh leave off Elizabeth if there's one thing that being with him has taught me is that anything a man can do so can a women in fact his business partners a women'' Katy huffed her arms crossed against her chest
''Did you say Shelby how old is he'' her cousin hissed out looking scared
''yep Shelby and he's the same age as me why?'' she answered confused
'' are you sure he has no family'' Elizabeth realised that the Shelby's where paying close attention not even trying to hide it
''Yeah I kinder remember his mum not much though I do remember her always looking sickly very grey she use to laugh that she was dying of a broken heart' Katy shivered as if the thought wasn't a pleasant one
''Don't know about his dad though he refuses to talk about it I guess its a sore subject''
Elizabeth gasped forgetting about the watchful eyes of the Shelby's ''is he a bastard child'' she looked shocked
Katy stood up and slapped her cousin yelling at her before storming out

Pol motioned one off the blinders that was in the pub and gave him hushed orders.
The young boy scurried after the girl while the Shelby's stood in the door way not knowing what to say
''Tommy'' Ada whispered grabbing his arm ''lets sit down''
they all slowly disappeared into the back room in there own thoughts
Finally john looked up ''you don't think''
''that Clare ran away because she was pregnant its a possibility'' pol confirmed
''But why, why not stay'' Arthur boomed
''judging by the look of that girl she cant be anymore that 17 that was around the time you boys went off to war'' everyone was silent
''maybe she thought you weren't going to make it back Thomas''
tommy stood up immediately ''SO SHE RAN OFF TO RAISE TO RAISE MY BLODDY SON ALONE WITHOUT ANY OF HIS FAMILY NOT KNOWING WHO HE REALLY WAS''
Tommy was fuming he stormed home people on the streets jumping out off his way. He waited for hours until there was a quick knock on his office door. Tommy made a small noise to signify the person could enter. A smallish boy he recognised as one of his newest blinders walked in.
Tommy leaned back in his chair listening closely
''Apparently she's from a small town called griffin about three or four hours train ride from here sir, she said that she knew jack Shelby since he was a child his mother died and a few weeks ago so did he she lied about dating him to her cousin because he was the only person she could think off''
his family listening in the hallway their hearts breaking for Tommy The boy scurried out of the room once dismissed.
''Thomas'' pol tired
''Get you shit together boys'' he took a puff of his smoke '' were leaving first thing in the morning to get my son and lay his body where he belongs''
The next morning at the Shelby house hold
Arthur, John, Finn and Thomas set out to the town off griffin no one saying anything all thinking about what the youngest Shelby could have been like. All off them in silent grief for the child they had never met
They walked around town scouting the place a few of the blinders positioned around the town in case they were needed when night fall had hit they haven't gotten any closer to finding anything out.
They walked passed a pub Thomas being to tired to argue with Arthur as he made a beeline for it hopping that Finn would find them with some good news he had sent him our earlier in search off the girl.
