f i v e- Under the blossom tree

THE day goes by in a blur. Chaeri spent the day observing her new classmates' behaviors in attempt to find who to and not to befriend.

The school, like others has cliques. She's never been fond of cliques, and has always been popular among every clique.

At her old school, she was kind, well-known, helpful, pretty much everything you'd admire in a person, of course she had her flaws, but her perfections out-weighed them. But, this, this isn't her old school. She needs to remember her place.

She carefully plans on how to be likable but not too popular while walking the halls. Her class had been dismissed for lunch five minutes prior to everyone else since her teacher had to be somewhere urgently.

She spots a tree not far from the school, but not close either.

She gladly runs to the tree. She plops down, out of sight from any other students that'd pass by.

A frigid breeze hits her rosy cheeks, her chin inches up slightly as she takes in the autumn air and the blossom petals surrounding her. She releases a deep breath before unpacking her lunch. She didn't bring much, not because she wasn't hungry, but because she didn't have much to bring.

Opening her hotel lunch, she crosses her legs under herself, and puts her earbuds in.

"She'd take the world off my shoulders

If it was ever hard to move

She'd turn the rain to a rainbow..."

Tears well up in her eyes and fall into her half eaten sandwich.

I can't relate to this song...why would it affect me this much?

Frustration builds up within her at the scene of how much emotion she was showing in public.

"Stay strong",

"You can make it through",

"You're strong and independent",

These words constantly get tossed into the air. They're meant to encourage and make you feel better, but she didn't want it anymore.

She wanted to be weak for just one minute.

She wanted to have someone to be dependent on.

She wanted to be a child again for one day.

She stares off into the distance, not even bothering to chew the rest of her food. There she sat, almost a statue, in a whirlpool of her thoughts.

Chaeri felt a shadow over her. She quickly snapped out of her daze, swallowed her food, and looked up at her visitor.

The boy she's had many encounters with stands above her. He speaks, but it comes out muffled.

Chaeri takes out her earbuds, "-spot."

She tilts her head at the boy in confusion as to what he just said.

An annoyed expression is clear on his face, maybe that's just his expression all the time.

He repeats himself, "You're sitting in my spot."

She slightly scoffs, "I didn't see a name on it."

She sarcastically searches for a name, then looks back at him and shrugs.

He simply rolls his eyes, then sits beside her.

She opens her mouth to speak to him, but she couldn't form any words.

This boy had been so awful to her the past few encounters.

Why did he act so reserved toward her?

Did she do something to upset him?

If he despised her so much, why did he help her?

Why is he sitting by her side?

These questions ring inside Chaeri's mind as she attempts to find words to say to him.

She sharply turns her body toward the boy, "Riki-"

"Sometimes, silence is best," he cuts her off.

She hesitantly turns away and nods.

The girl lies her head against the tree and sinks into her thoughts once again.

Her eyelids become heavy, all her weight is transferred to the tree's trunk.

Flashes of screams and running, the lighting and blood. Her mind became infiltrated with these images since that night.

She opens her eyes, desperately gasping for air.

A tight grip on her shoulders indicates someone woke her up from the terrors she faces.

She looks up, teary eyed, to face a shocked Riki.
