"Wake up you two. You are late for school!"
The voice came from downstairs. Their mother was already awake and busy making breakfast.
For Larry was t far from a good day. He couldn't care less, if he arrived in hell early. He pulled his sheet up his head and remained in bed. But sister had other plans. She woke up and jumped from her bed on to her brother, "Wake up Larry! Wake up! Wake up!"
"I know now why the boogie man didn't eat you!" moaned his brother, pushing her aside.
"Why?"
"Because you are a pain in the ass!"
"Hehehe...you said 'ass'.
Larry moaned out of frustration, hoping that his sister would just leave the room. But is wasn't just her that bothers him, his mother had the same way to annoy him to no end.
"Why can she just leave me in bed today?!" moaned Larry, hoping that this day would end very soon. Dragging his feet out of bed and, in slow motion, down the stairs. Even eating his cereal took twice as much. His mother was close to throw a tantrum.
In an hour, they finally arrived at the hell hole.
Their mother gave them their lunch money for today, hoping that it won't all get wasted on sugar stuff. As the big brother, he should kept an eye on his sister, those were her words before runnign back to the car. Out of sight, Amanda tip toed towards the seets. She was about to use her money on that particular item, but before she could even reach over the counter, her brother sneaked up from behind, "No candy Ama!" Amanda puffed up her cheeks and stomped her feet dramatically, "I want candy!" It didn't affect Larry at all, "Nice try sis, either pasta or sandwich?" She kept her hamster face up, "Sandwich...and a chocolate bar as dessert!" Instead of wasting any more time he moaned out, "Fine! One sandwich...and a freaking chocolate bar please." He hates it when she gets what she wants; Amanda, finally removing the air out of her mouth, yell out satisfied, "YAY!"
At least the classes won't bug me today, thought Larry.
Well, it was half way true. The lessons were running slow, even a snail was faster than the clock. He had a hard time to keep himself from falling asleep. If it wasn't for the guys behind him, throwing pieces of rubber onto his head, it would have been easier. Unlike him, Amanda enjoyed her lessons to the fullest. Her art teacher gave her the assignment to draw something from the past, something they enjoy the most. But once the little girl had finished her drawing, her teacher was far from impressed. It showed Amanda, a few trees and creatures...ripping off animal heads. Her teacher swallowed hard at the scene, "Amanda, what did you draw?" To her surprise, she smiled wide, "These were my best friends, Gary and Gory...they love animals, just like me." "I can see that. Why is there so much red in the painting?" Amanda sighted, explaining that her friends play pretty rough. Her teacher's face got pale, " Ehm...Could I borrow your drawing for today?" "Of course Miss!" Amanda doesn't seem to understand what was going on, since to her, it is the most natural thing in the world. Her teacher took her piece of paper and stored it into one of her draws. This wasn't the first time she had problems with Amanda. The little girls with the big grin on her face just creeps her out.
"Okay class, it is time for break."
At the school yard, Amanda sat under a tree and kept on drawing. The bullies, a bunch of girls in her class, found her. Like cats, they sneaked up to her and kicked the sketchbook off her hands. Their leader spat at her, "You are such a freak!"
Amanda hates it to be called something she is not, "I am not!"
"Who has animal eating friends?"
"I do" said Amanda in a proud tone.
The bullies grinned, "precisely!"
One of the girls came forward, "I hope the Spiderman will get you!"
"Spider who?" Amanda never heard of this creature before.
"Spiderman...you stupid..." suddenly, they had an idea, "...you know what? Would you like the Spiderman to be your friend?"
Amanda's eyes sparkled, "Yeah, how can I do that?"
The girls giggled, moving a little closer to her, "Okay, after school you walk back home through the woods and at the same time, you leave some bread crumbs on the path. This will lead the Spiderman to your home."
"Really?!"
"Trust me...you won't regret it."
Amanda took their words and wanted to give it a try, however she doesn't want to wait till school end. Desperately in need of a friend, she grabbed her sandwich and headed into the forest. Smiling happy, she enjoyed the feeling of the breeze, going throw her hair and the sound of the leaves, welcoming her to the woods. Meanwhile, her bother didn't have as much fun as she does.
Larry had finally reached the last lesson of the day, feeling completely drained out. Right now, he cursed himself, not to have been as stubborn as Amanda, "I should have gotten some sweets or an energy drink." But instead, he got himself a sandwich and milk. At break he saw one of his classmates at the nearest bench. She seems to be waiting for something, so Larry went over to her, to ask in person. This girl was one of the mysterious ones in the classroom, sitting in the back of the room; hardly a sound comes from her lips...unless you talk first. So he made the first step, "Hey."
She looked up to him, her bangs covering her hazelnut eyes, "...hey."
"Are you waiting for something?"
"...no..."
So much for talking! He asked her if he could sit next to her. She nodded and moved slowly aside. For a while they stayed silent. Larry feels uncomfortable and reached for his milk pack. His classmate stared at it with interest, "...milk?" He raised his brow, "Yeah...so?" "...can...I have it?" Larry wasn't sure of what to think of that, "Why?" She roamed into her backpack to reveal a vanilla drink, "I don't like this...can I trade it for your milk?" Larry's eyes sparkled. Without any hesitation, he nodded quickly and swapped the drinks. She giggled at this, "You are funny...my name is Lola...by the way."
He stopped drinking for a minute, "Lola?" Shy as she is, she moved her head down, hiding her eyes now from him, "Many people just call me...Lol." "I am Larry; just call me...eh...Larry?" She giggle again, a little louder this time, "I like you Larry...would you...like to come to a party?" He wasn't sure what to say this time; no one ever asked him that before, "Party?"
"A Halloween party at my place...if you want...you can come."
Larry thought about it. If it means to go out, instead of staying at home with his annoying sister, he might have a chance to make new friends, "Sure...I come." Lola smiled sweet, "I am glad you do. Here is the invitation letter...don't be late...Larry." The bell went off and all children went back inside, for their final lesson. He couldn't care less now. Larry inspected his card with interest. It was in a shape of a pumpkin; inside it has all the information he needed for the party. So what could go wrong? He went over the words, as one main point caught his eye, "at 11pm?"
There is no way that his mom lets him out at this time, especially when Lola's home is on the other side of the village. How can he persuade her to let him go anyway?
