Blue was never liked by any RainWing.
Well, not every RainWing hated her. The only RainWing who liked - or loved - her was her mother, Spectacular.
If you're wondering why nobody liked her, it was because of her traitor father Papaya. Every RainWing looked at her like she was going to turn out the same. No matter how many times Spectacular tried convincing everyone that Blue was the most innocent dragonet in Pyrrhia, they still didn't believe her.
This made it very hard for Blue to make friends.
Even though nobody knew who and who weren't related, every time Blue had gone over to talk to a dragonet of her age, a grown dragon would come over and steer them away, telling the dragonet in hushed whispers that bad blood ran through Blue's veins.
"I don't understand," Blue whispered under the shelter of Spectacular's wing. Part of her blamed her mother for taking her into her care unlike other RainWings. If she hadn't, nobody would've known Papaya was her father, and Blue would've lived a normal life.
But if she hadn't, then Blue wouldn't have felt Spectacular's warm affection and learn that squirmy, funny Sunray was her aunt.
Oh, yeah, Blue thought. One more dragon who likes me: Sunray.
Sunray acted like she didn't know Papaya was Blue's father or didn't care. She acted like Blue was her best friend and played with her all the time when Spectacular was too tired to. It was like Sunray and Spectacular were taking turns in playing the part as Blue's mother.
Even though they had tried to file Papaya out of Blue's life and memory, she still had wanted to meet him and see how he really was. Was he really a bad guy? Was he even still alive? Those questions wouldn't have an answer unless Blue saw him.
"They are all fools," Spectacular said softly. "Don't worry about it. One day, they'll come around."
But they hadn't. It went on for two years until Blue had finally gotten fed up. Whilst Spectacular was asleep, she'd sneaked away into the rainforest, thinking ruefully, if there was a time where the RainWings were even more suspicious of me, it would be now. Blue had remembered that Spectacular had told her that when she found Papaya out, he was skulking around in the forest. That was exactly was Blue was doing right now.
She wasn't exactly skulking; she didn't have a destination to go to. No RainWing, apart from Papaya, that she knew had left the rainforest, so she hadn't seen the exit.
She was just making her way around the rainforest, when suddenly she heard a hiss. "Psst."
Thinking back at it now, Blue wondered why she hadn't just turned around and ran back to the village as fast as she possibly could. But as a two-year-old dragonet, she was curious about everything, and so she'd turned around to face the noise.
Out of the shadows came a whole patrol of five SandWings. Four of them wore armour, and one, who was by far the largest and creepiest, didn't wear anything apart from jewellery.
"Oo, a RainWing," Burn hissed. "I only just found this tunnel, never mind the whole rainforest on the other side.
"Guards, take her."
After that, Blue was put in chains and dragged all the way to Burn's stronghold and put in her weirdling tower, where she rotted for two whole years until Gleam came and rescued her.
Even after all what happened, Blue still hadn't managed to expect that she'd become friends with a snivelling SandWing, part of the tribe which had put her in a cage out of the sunlight for years. (Elk, if you hadn't guessed who she was summing up.)
