I got home and rested on my bed thinking about the day I had. School honestly wasn't that bad. It's a small town and seems like everyone knows everybody, that was a problem.
It'd be harder to fit in. I was tired but forced myself up. Getting up I grabbed a bottle of pills off my nightstand. I walked over to Grandma who was sitting by her big window starring out.
Approaching her she spoke, "You know.." she started with a teasing voice. "That little boys' been taking looks at our house all week"
I looked out to see Benny who was out throwing a ball with his dog. "Do you know him?" I nodded my head, "Yeah."
Wish I hadn't, I thought. "Here grandma, it's medicine time." I pushed forward the cup and pill in my hand. Grandmas shaky crinkled hand slowly picked up the pill sticking it in her mouth before slowly gulping down the water.
She was getting older each day. It was scary, not knowing what's to happen to me when she passes. She was the last person in my family who really cared for me. And I loved her, she was here for me since my mom died when I was only 6.
Thinking about all she's done for me keeps me going. No matter how tired, how busy I am I will always take time out to wash her, read her a night time story, give her pills and take her on walks.
"Okay grandma. I will go and do my homework. Ill head into the kitchen to make dinner in a bit." I said kissing her cheek.
I sat down pulling out my books. Luckily since it was my first day only in a few classes did I get homework.
After dinner I checked the time. Perfect; it was exactly 6pm grandmas bed time. I pushed her wheel chair over into her room. "Want me to finish the book?"
Grandma shook her head, I helped her into bed and frowned."No book today? You always want me to read it." Grandma pointed to the big window to her right. "Would you take our left over brownies to that young boys house?"
No... please. "Why not that house?" I pointed to the one next to it. "Because that young boys your age. Plus he's cute don't you think? You'll get to meet his mother."
"But grandma-" she cupped my hand in hers. "Do it for grandma will you sweetheart? Just take it over and introduce yourself. It'll only take 10 minutes." I sighed sitting up from the bed.
"Only for you grandma." I leaned in giving her a kiss on the cheek. "Goodnight sweetheart."
"Goodnight."
I strutted up the porch brownies in hand mumbling things about how awful Benny was until I reached the door.
I knocked.
Once.
Twice.
Three times."I swear if I have anymore conversations with this idiot-" the door creaked open and a beautiful lady's face appeared.
I quickly paused what I was saying fixing my frown to a smile I held up the brownies. "Hi!" I smiled showing each of my pearly whites.
"Girl scouts?" The woman asked.
I stood there confused when suddenly she chuckled. "I'm playing, would you like to come in?" She held the door open wider, I nodded and stepped in. She closed the door and lead me to her kitchen.
"I suppose those are for me." She smiled motioning me to place them down on the island. "Yes they are. My grandma and I made them yesterday so they aren't fresh but figured we'd bring them to you."
"Yes thank-you. I have a fourteen year old boy up there, he'll eat an entire elephant if he could."
We both giggled. "Alright I'll know where to give our leftovers."
"Speaking of my son, how old are you?"
She motioned me to take a seat as she took a stool from the corner of the kitchen taking a seat on the other side of the island. I sat down "I'm fourteen too."
"Oh so you must know Benny!" I nodded, "yeah, pretty well." She sat up walking over to a cabinet "want some kool-laid?"
I nodded. She reached up and grabbed a cup, closed the cabinet and went over to the fridge. "Let me call him down. Benny, a girl you know is here!"
I froze. I heard the steps of running coming from the stairs on the other side of the kitchen. Oh man this will be very fun won't it?
The footsteps ended and I knew he saw me. I turned to look at the brunette boy. "Hi..." he slowly walked over to the kitchen.
"Hey.." I could tell Bennys mom felt the intimidation so she spoke. "Do you have him in a class." Now pouring the glass.
"Uh- yeah, two of them." I replied looking down at my nails that I hadn't realized I had been picking at."
"Sweet. I mean this is a very small neighborhood, there's no way you haven't had at least every kid here in every class." I nodded she handed me the cup, "thank-you."
"Mom it's getting pretty late. I'll take her home." He said motioning me out.
"Aww okay then, I'll see you later... What's your name?""Isa." She smiled and Benny glared me. Taking that as I should leave I waved goodbye and headed out the door Benny right behind me. As soon as he closed the door he spoke.
"Why'd you come here?" I kept walking replying. "I didn't want too."
"What do you mean?" He asked I ignored him when suddenly he yanked me around.
"My grandma asked me too. I wouldn't have wanted to come, you know that."
I didn't know what he expected me to say but I'd hope he hadn't thought I needed to see him more in my life because it was surely the complete opposite."Alright. Don't talk about this at school." I confusingly agreed. "Okay?"
He turned around and headed up his drive way; we parted ways.
