Trackside scrap was a problem for railways, and for the Sodor Railway, their problem is much more worse than most other railways, as trackside scrap covered a majority of the railway. Sir Topham Hatt and Mr. Starr decided to have it cleaned up. Unfortunately for the engines, they only one who could clean up in the fastest way possible is Diesel 10, who is often feared or disgusted by the steam engines. While some have gotten used to having him around, others are still on edge whenever he appears.

Some often go as far as to say...

"You cannot trust big diesels."

"They are always coming up with ways to make us look miserable, or worse, scrap us."

"Normal smaller diesels, prankish yet trustworthy. Those big snakes, nothing but monsters."

"If you see one of those big diesels, avoid contact."

However, not all steam engines view big diesels that way. Some steam engines have befriended a few big diesels, such as BoCo, Daisy, and Bear.

Though, this didn't really stop how some of the big steam engines viewed Diesel 10.

One day, James was waiting at Lower Tidmouth, when Diesel 10 came in.

"How goes your work?" muttered James.

"Quite fine so far," answered Diesel 10. "I'm not sure how the trackside has this much scrap metal, but the people that leave them there should know better."

"You're one to talk," scoffed James.

Diesel 10 already knew where James was going with this, but before he could argue, James puffed away, sneering to himself.

"You cannot trust those big diesels," muttered James.

However, Diesel 10 still heard, before leaving for Knapford. He has gotten used to whatever rude comments are thrown at him, but right now, he is truly needed to help out, and the rude comments seemed unnecessary at a time like this.

"Maybe, Thomas has gotten used to me by now," he said to himself.

Meanwhile, some of the big engines were still gossiping. This only annoyed a tragic few big engines, such as Edward, Henry, Molly, and Rebecca. So, they held an indignation meeting at Brendham.

"I don't see why they should be gossiping at a time like this," said Henry.

"They should've moved on from the past events at this point," added Molly.

"It's like they could only remember all the bad times they had with diesels like him," added Rebecca.

"It's like they forgotten that Diesel 10 helped them with that airport disaster," added Peter.

"We should be relatively fine with our overall relationship with big diesels," said Edward. "Tank engines, like Thomas and Liz, should be fine with having them around. It's us tender engines that need some more time."

Unfortunately for Edward, he didn't know Thomas still had some problems with Diesel 10.

At Knapford, he expressed some of them with Liz, who just sighed.

"Don't you think it's time you've moved on?" she asked. "Granted, you've had the worst troubles with him, but you should've moved on by now."

"I wish," replied Thomas. "But that's the thing. I've got the worst troubles with Diesel 10. First, he chased me, Lady, and Mr. Stone in an effort to destroy us. Then, he kidnapped me after making Percy betray me. Then, he stole some of our Christmas decorations."
