TW: VIOLENCE, MENTION OF DEATH, MURDER
WORDS: 1.1 K
It was a dark night and you were again forced to run for your life. After the weird teleportation to lands of Amphibia you were forced to live your days like they were your last. You weren't sure what was happening, nothing made sense for you, one day you all were celebrating Anne's birthday and now you were running like your life was depending on it, well, because it was. You were sure others were safe and probably looking for you.
"I'm sure they're looking for me day and night, I'm sure we are going to meet eventually." You used to think, all you could do was wait, being stuck in a swampy forest full of bloodthirsty creatures wasn't an easy thing to survive. "I'm sure.".
You were living in those lies till the day you finally picked up traveling, the time passed unexpectedly fast, you were here for maybe 2 months? Maybe 3? You weren't sure, the days started to feel the same, you took your mind of things by exploring what the world had to offer.
And finally you accepted the sad truth, your friends were probably dead, eaten by monsters that were birthed from this awful land. You entered the never stopping cycle of traumatic grief over the death of your dearest and only friends. The never ending circle of grief started with denial, because they can't be dead, can they? They never deserved to die young, why you? Why were you left here alone? Why?
The another step of your new life was a state of anger, you at first, scared the locals. Your mood changing like a swing, lashing out on others, they were different, all you saw were enemies, everywhere, they killed your friends, it was their fault and you were there to show it, maybe this was your mission, to avenge your friends, to show those creatures, that what they have done has consequences, to murder in act of revenge, in act of what was right, you would murder killers for justice. Townsfolk mistakenly thought of you as a hero, their version of Gotham's Dark Knight, if that's what helps them fall asleep, you weren't there to reject their claims.
You travelled through towns, claiming your spot as a hero, from nowhere, with no family, no friends, no connections, and no interest in money, you were there to bring justice and when you started to deal with sadness you moved on to another town. Sometimes you could swear you saw Sasha in one of the windows looking at you like she saw a ghost, or a long time friend she haven.t seen since her 10th birthday, you swear you saw some disgusting toad like creatures taking her away, she always used to judge you, when she thought you weren't listening or watching, she saw you as someone below her. But it was probably just an illusion, something from the deepest part of youtr brain that wants to scream "They aren't dead! Look! There they are!". when she was alive you never questioned her bad actions, it never appeared as a red flag, you hate yourself for thinking badly of the dead, Frogs in the town always say that:
"You should never speak badly of dead Frogs, ya know? Frogs say that talking like that brings them back!" They say, speaking in whispers as to not disturb those who are dead or not bring any attention of living.
"They weren't Frogs." You always added quietly, but you weren't sure, maybe they were, or maybe they never were, as in existing, maybe you just made them up? You weren't sure, there was a thin line between what's real and what's fake.

Little did you know that the Toads took notice to the mysterious "Dark Knight" of the villages, they tried to send a spy that would decode your every single secret but before he could even start his job, you sneaked up on him, something taking over you, an impulse, like muscle memory you automatically swinged the sharpest rock you found on your way sneaking up on him. You missed your first atack, the sharp stone cutting his cheek, he was faster then you, and had an advantage. He run like you a while ago, running for his life, thinking he can somehow save it and show others how good of a soldier he is, he run to his secret cabin, prepared for this day.
He thought he lost you, but you were following him closely behind, the thing that took over you, the impulse, made you enjoy having the extreme control, of life and death, the power that no ordinary person holds, the power of god, no one was stronger now. While you took a slow walk in a beautiful forest filled with aura of death and terror, the Toad was racing to write a letter for his peers. Something to remember him by, the documentation that he was there, he was living once.
Lieutenant Sasha Waybright,
I, soldier of the Toad army, am writing my last entry of this document,
I'm writing this in a hurry, I think I won't make it out.
That thing, whatever it is, got to me before I got to it.
I won't be able to succeed at my mission, I think it lost my trope when I deflected it's atack.
From what I heard, this isn't the first time it's been here.
It is called a Hero but tried to murder me in cold blood.
I think I saw it before, that time when we collected taxes here, when you, Lieutenant were staring into the distance, I think it thought you were looking at it.
It's too late now, it's here. I hear it knocking on my windows, goodbye.
Singing of, soldier and spy of the Toads Tower
Ps. Tell my wife I loved her, even now. I think about her.
He wasn't wrong, you, or the thing that took over you, was in fact knocking on the windows, staring inside, looking for your prey. He crawled underneath the front windows, avoiding your eyes, he crawled slowly to the storage, with only one way in, he hid the letter and exhaled loudly. The Toad relaxed for the second.
"What is that?" He whispered to himself. "I'm lucky it missed my head there." He said now fully relaxing.
While the Toad was letting his guard down, you sneaked inside his storage, giving him time to hide his letter, watching closely over his shoulder.
"Oh don't you worry, I don't typically make blunders twice." You answered.
You were right, this time your hit landed your target before he could even make a single noise.
