(Yay, I'm finally done! I kind of got carried away with this one, haha. The chapter is over 2000 words! I guess SkekSo just holds a certain place in my heart ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This prompt was requested by @MinkZymer. Enjoy!)

You chewed on your bottom lip, sitting anxiously on the edge of your bed. Tonight the lords were preparing a feast for the return of one of their own; and you had completely forgotten about it. Just the day before, you had overheard the Skeksis talking about how this individual particularly valued material things--such as gems, trinkets, and precious jewels--above all else. And you had absolutely nothing to offer. Scenarios played through your head as you tried to find a way out of your certain doom. You gently fiddled with the precious silver locket that hung around your neck. It always made you feel better in these situations. Suddenly, your room door swung open, hitting the wall with a loud bang. You quickly stuffed the locket back in your shirt.

"Human!," The General's gruff voice boomed. "The Emperor requests your presence at once."

"Alright," You nodded, eyes widened from the shock. "Didn't have to yell, though..." You added, mumbling under your breath. Hopping off your lofty bed, you scampered past SkekVar and down the hallway, trying to recall the twist and turns of the castle. Unfortunately, you quickly found yourself lost among the looming halls.

"(Y/N) seems lost, mmm?" A familiar voice asked. You whipped your head around, now face to face with the Chamberlain. He tilted his head, beady eyes squinted slightly. You plastered on a smile.

"Heh, yeah...I was just on my way to see the Emperor, I guess I took a wrong turn..." You admitted, scratching the back of your head awkwardly.

"Mmmm..." He stared at you suspiciously. "Then let Chamberlain guide! Will be there in no time." He suddenly raised his voice enthusiastically. If there was one thing you hated about the Skeksis, it was how loud they were. Your eardrums throbbed constantly, although you'd probably been in the castle for over a week.

"Wonderful." You replied, trying not to grit your teeth.

Turns out, you had been going the complete opposite way of the throne room. It was actually embarrassing how long it took for SkekSil to bring you there, even with the shortcuts he took. You simply kept your eyes on the ground most of the time, which fed an awkward tension between the two of you, but in your opinion it was better than acknowledging your lack of directional skills. Finally, after what seemed like forever, you stood in front of the doorway of the throne room. An intense feeling of self-consciousness shot through you, now instantaneously aware of every single cell in your body. Perhaps it was because you considered the Emperor to be the most handsome of the lords?

Your thoughts were interrupted as the Chamberlain gently pushed you forward with his bony talons, staring at you intently. He could tell you were nervous. You tensed as you gathered your strength and stepped into the room, trying to keep your cheeks from turning red.

So stupid...I mean, they're all so old and wrinkly. Psh, as if some wacky bird-monster thing could actually be attractive... You thought to yourself, snickering under your breath. However, your moment of denial was quickly shattered as you locked eyes with the Skeksis lord.

"Ah, (Y/N). There you are." His deep, rich voice hit your ears. You heard Chamberlain's shuffling behind you, leaving you and the Emperor alone.

Just great.
