HALO MY ANGELS AND WELCOME TO IN BETWEEN EXTRAS! It basically goes over the less broad topics in writing and where I will address any questions or requests. But in this one, I'll be focusing on Book Covers & Titles. Enjoy!
YOUR BOOK COVER IS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION ON YOUR READERS. It's essential to have an eye-catching background and a title that captures the reader's attention. It's the book cover that drags them in as they are helplessly succumbed by their own curiosity.
BOOK TITLES. I believe it would be markedly easier to tell you what not to do for book titles, rather than what you should do. Here are some pointers.
DO NOT USE...
━ ANYTHING WITH "BAD BOY" (It's cliche. But if you want to write a bad boy, it's perfectly fine. Just don't use it for the title.)
━ ANYTHING WITH "NERD" OR "JOCK" (Again, it's just so cliche, if you want to introduce someone as nerdy or athletic, do it in the character description. But when you do that, try to avoid using those two words. You don't want to make 'nerd' or 'jock' your OC's entire personality.)
━ "COUNTRY" or "CITY" girl/boy (Using country or city boy/girl will, like I said earlier, make it their whole personality.)
━ A LONG, EXPLANATORY TITLE. AN EXAMPLE? "THE COUNTRY GIRL AND THE BAD BOY THAT STOLE HER BRA." [Insert throwing up noises] (This is a perfect example of everything I told you not to do so far. If you would read something like this, I apologize but, please go unalive yourself.)
━ "ALPHA" (Just, why? There's like a million stories on Wattpad with the word 'alpha' in the title. Be unique and creative.)
━ "CAMP" (Seriously, it's so very common. Just don't.)
━ "BODYGUARD" (Go ahead and write about a bodyguard falling for their client. I don't give two fuc- I mean ducks. But just don't use it in your title. If someone were to be searching up your book and it was named like that, they would have a harder time finding it. Mainly because they're sifting through all of those look-alike titles.)
━ "BILLIONARE" or "MILLIONARE" (We get it, the guy is hot and rich. But save that description in story, don't put it for your title like another thousand Wattpad writers did!)
BOOK COVERS. When making a book cover, Canva is a great website/app to make it. (Wattpad already has it on default for you.) Pinterest has a great and vastly wide collection of images or drawings you can use. Searching up aesthetic images that match your storyline is a good idea.
There are a lot of components you must add for your book cover. Firstly, the title, then your name as the author. Borderlines are optional but recommended. As for extra "elements", as Canva calls it, adding one or two may help with the looks.
Keep your book cover simple yet eye-catching. Here are the examples I made.
