ACT FIVE
Zelda was deeply afraid of the ocean. I mean, who in their right mind wasn't? Realistically speaking, at least. Sharks, piranhas and endless, deep, undiscovered waters. To Zelda, it was a nightmare. She didn't like the feeling of being scared. She despised horror-movies, adrenaline kicks like cliff diving and being alone at night.Bella had informed her a few days ago that Victoria was back. God, Zelda hated that new-found fear of vampires. She had never met Victoria and she was grateful for it. She had only found out about the Cullens being vampires when Jasper tried to eat Bella at her birthday party. So really, except that no vampire had really given her a reason to be scared. Leaving out Laurent, of course.
But after that encounter, she was terrified of them. And now that the wolves were out to hunt her, and her dad was out to hunt the wolves, Bella and Zelda were left alone. And that why Bella woke her sister up at nine in the morning on a Saturday, shaking her awake.
"Yet another hike?" Zelda groaned, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
"No offence Bells but this is the fourth time this week. First time you and Jacob had an Oscar-worthy fight in the rain, the second time I've almost been mauled to death by Laurent and the third time you left me alone with Lahote." She mumbled and Bella forced out a smile.
"You used to have a crush on him, didn't you." Bella tried again, watching as Zelda sent her a glare.
"Yea, that was until he laughed that one time when I tripped on ice and cut open my forehead." The young girl shot back, standing up to get ready nonetheless.
"Okay, but you're my sister, and my best friend-" she started but was quickly shut up when the door to the bathroom was slammed shut.
"It's okay Bella I'm getting ready. But no killing your self this time." Zelda joked and luckily to Bella she didn't hear how the latter mumbled just getting some adrenaline.
And so for the fourth time that week, Zelda sat in the passengers seat on the way to La Push. Somewhere close to the woods Bella parked and the girls yet again hiked. This time, Zelda luckily stayed dry.
The pair then made a beeline upwards and Zelda noticed to late that they came to a stop at the edge of a cliff. A high one at that.
"Bella?" Zelda asked quietly as she watched her sister completely lose her mind. She watched with parted lips how she talked to Edward. Except Edward wasn't there. So yes, she did lose her mind.
"Bella, what are you doing, stop this you're scaring me." Zelda begged now, watching Bella start to take off her shoes. She was frustrated and it even went so far that tears were streaming down her cheeks.
"Bella stop it, please, I'm scared." She took ahold of Bellas arm and she finally stopped the talking and looked at her. Bellas eyes softened for a second.
"Zelda, it's okay, it's just cliff jumping." She looked down the cliff.
"Bella this is not going to bring Edward back, Victorias out, you're going to hurt yourself-" Zelda couldn't even finish her sentence, Bella already having disappeared down the cliff. Zelda gasped and her hands covered her face as she turned away. As soon as she heard the splash of Bella landing, she carefully walked closer, tears still running down her face and her trembling lips turned into a small smile when Bellas head appeared.
Bella looked up at Zelda and both their eyes widened when they looked up and saw a gigantic wave coming towards Bella. Zelda panicked again as her sister was pulled under the water, walking back and forth, anxiously deciding what to do.
With shaking hands she took of her jacket and kicked off her boots, sobbing quietly and she felt like a crybaby when she realised that she was crying over her sister cliff-diving. But then again, this was Isabella Swan and she seemed to have a death wish recently. Both Swan girls were clumsily making their way through life but danger followed the older one so it was only natural for Zelda to feel this way when she noticed her head not popping back up. She was pinching her nose close with her thumb and pointer finger already, taking in a breath when she felt arms wrap around her waist from behind. She gasped when her feet were suddenly in the air above the water and breathed in again when the person holding her moved back with her. She whipped around, scared out of her skin and said person, Paul Lahote, put her back onto the ground with the heaviest glare possible.
"What do you think you're doing, huh?" He spat out, arm motioning towards the cliff, where the girl stood just seconds ago. She flinched back at his tone of voice but quickly opened her mouth again.
"Bella jumped into the water, and she didn't come back up!" She exclaimed, wiping away her tears with trembling hands.
"Yea, I saw! Jacobs getting her. You know what I also saw?" He asked and her non-talking was a sign for him to continue.
"You ready to jump in after her! Do you have a death wish? That leech is out there and the only thing you can think off is going cliff diving? At this time of the year?" He kept on scolding her and suddenly, knowing that Bella was safe, she was getting mad as well. She raised her hand so her finger was pointing at him and raised higher up onto her feet, just to seem more intimidating.
"You don't get to yell at me, Lahote! You don't get to suddenly care or whatever you think you're doing-"
"Care? You think I care?" He huffed out, arms crossing over his chest, which Zelda only now noticed was bare. She'd blush if she wasn't so mad.
"I just don't want another person to die today." He scolded again and Zelda felt slightly hurt that he didn't care, she didn't know why and she was about to argue back until she really registered his words.
"Another?" She whispered suddenly, stumbling back onto her feet and letting her arms fall. Paul's face softened and he looked her body over once, trying to figure out wether she was okay to stand on her own or not.
"Harry had a heart attack." He said softly and watched as her lips parted and her eyes widened.
"Mr. Clearwater?" She asked and he nodded.
She turned around, dropping onto her knees and vomited into a nearby bush. She didn't really register his hands holding up her hair and softly caressing her back.
