Fragments of a Past

Chapter one

Everybody falls
Someday it will happen to all of us
The wind blowing past you as you fall to the ground
Feeling all the hopes you had leave you
Then you feel your body hitting the ground

A phone rings on a table, Mr. Lordi picks it up after it woke him up.
- What? He asks in a groggy voice.
- Hey, we got a new ruin burning, Mana says like he's been up for hours.
- Again? Uuugghh! Mr. Lordi says turning in his bed.
There's been news about some group burning down old ruins, leaving almost nothing behind. The police has been trying to find out who's behind these burnings. Right now there's only been 8 burnings and they've been happening for around 2 months.
- I really need you to come here, they found something interesting at the site, Mana says, his voice shaking a bit.
Mr. Lordi sits up, the tremble in Mana's voice making him worried.
- Ok, I'm coming, Mr. Lordi says ending the call.
He puts his phone in his pocket, he stands there for a moment, but he doesn't know why, something just feels really off about all of this. He shakes this uneasy feeling and and teleports to Mana's house.

He ends up in the living room, Mana's sitting on the sofa, he gets a bit startled by Mr. Lordi suddenly appearing.
- Hey, you got some Pepsi or something? Mr. Lordi asks, still tired from the abrupt waking.
- No, Mana responds, looking down on his phone.
- Do you at least have some coffee? Mr. Lordi asks a little irritated.
- Yeah, go make some for yourself, Mana says, still looking at his phone.
Mr. Lordi heads to the kitchen and turns on the coffee machine, he stares at the machine while the drops drip down into the can. He still has am uneasy feeling, like something's gonna happen... but what?

Someone knocks on the door, Mana gets up from the sofa to go and open it.
He only gets to turn the handle until the door bursts open.
- WHAT IN THE LIVING FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!?! Hella yells in the doorway, a smile plastered on her face.
Kone and Hiisi are standing behind her, Kone laughs at Hella's shenanigans while Hiisi buries his face in his hand and snickers a little.
Mana peeks his head out from behind the door.
- Maybe we shouldn't burst open the door when someone is behind it, he says annoyed.
- Oops, sorry about that, Hella says putting her hands behind her back, trying to look innocent.
The three come in followed by Mana, Mr. Lordi enters the living room with a cup of coffee right as the rest come in.

Hella jumps onto the sofa, laying down comfortably. Hiisi sits down on the floor, Kone stands beside him leaning against a wall.
- So uh, why did you want us here? Kone asks Mana, tilting his head a little.
- There was another ruin burning, Mana responds.
- And? Hella says confused, what's so special about them? There's already been like 8 of them.
-  You see, this time they found something there, Mana says opening something up on his phone.
- And what's that? Hiisi asks.
Mana takes a deep breath.
- They found a kind of symbol scratched into one of the walls, and it's the same as Mr. Lordi's, Mana says with his head down.
Everyone stares at Mr. Lordi, he notices and puts down his coffee.
- Hey, look, I have no part in these burnings, he says putting his hands up.
- Then they must at least know about you, Hiisi says, but why is that?
- I-I don't know... Mr. Lordi says, his voice shaking. He sighs and closes his eyes.
- I need a minute, he says, he turns around and walks outside.
Everyone looks at each other, everyone knows that somethings wrong, but he won't tell them. After some time Mana turns around and goes outside as well.
When he gets there he sees Mr. Lordi lighting a cigarette. Mana walks up to him, Mr. Lordi is trying to ignore that Mana is there.
- Mr. Lordi, we all know there's something going on, what connection do you have to the ruin burnings? Mana asks, hoping to get an answer.
Mr. Lordi blows out some smoke and continues to look down.
- As I said, I don't know, Mr. Lordi says in a hushed voice.
Mana looks away from Mr. Lordi and sighs.
- I'll be inside if you need me, Mana tells him.
He walks inside while Mr. Lordi stays outside on the patio, looking at the sky.
