"In the waning months of the Third Shinobi War, the 5th faced missions critical to the agenda of the 3rd Tsuchikage Onoki . When we arrived at the bombed out ruins of Kanabi Bridge, our squad leader believed we had been sent to supply the already exhausted  2nd Garrison Battalion. What he didn't know however was that our team of the 5th-of which is composed of 2 Iwa nin and 3 Utsukame- was really after an Iwa-nin that captured one of the spies that resided within Konoha, that the Head of the Iwa side of operations wanted to save. Keeping our team in the dark wasn't easy; they had become increasingly wary of Tier 5 Akiko Usukame-under cover as Kaguya-and was on the lookout for the slightest hint of treachery. Just like the rest of them though, he never caught whiff of what was really going on, until it was far too late"

Excerpt from Journal of Jinrai Utsukame, Tier 4 of the CSA, undercover on the 5th combat logistic platoon of Iwagakure, Third shinobi war, Konoha theater of operation.

"The Operation was a disaster... The plan was to weaken the weakest position held by the enemy, then conduct a spearhead on that weak link, then encircle the 2nd Uzumaki forward post and weaken the moral of the 2 outposts. But evidently, nothing continued as expected, our 3rd Forward Element lead, and the 5th Recon Patrol that retired then returned into active duty due to our circumstances, executed the spear head on the the 1st forward post of the Uzumaki's assisted by a detachment of the Genius sappers that experienced the 3rd shinobi war on Iwa side from the 3rd Forward Post. At the start of our operation, our effective was about 46 Operatives counting the conscripted retired veteran, against an estimated amount of 36 Shinobi from the Uzumaki side."

He closed his eyes, then reopened, he said, "But when the operation Redemption was launched, it did not turn as expected, the supposed weak post that the Uzumaki held turned out to be the least weak spot of the other 2, we encountered 2 squad sized Red heads, more than a half of their supposed number were stationed there-they tricked us into believing that they had less forces- expecting an attack, but those 12 veterans were not to be messed with, so they retaliated. The battle started, while we had casualties, we lost 10 agents, but they also payed a heavy price, out of 22 Uzumaki's that held the post, only 6 remained alive."

"But that's not all, the recon units stationed along the border reported some Uzumaki's 'disappearing', we were really surprised, it was clones all along, and our sensors may got tricked by some of their seals to not spot them, so at that moment, I decided to pull our forces out, and to actually form an Battle plan and expect everything this time."

He sighed, "But my advisors and the elders... were very clear to make them pay, they said that their line is weakened, so we needed to exploits than and finish the war quick. But alas with all my warnings, they executed the operation Purge. Dispatching 2 squad assisted by the already exhausted half team there, we-they expected absolute victory, but when they arrived, the 6 remining read-heads fled, so they decided to continue the spear head until the operation become a success."

"But the thing is, because of the unexpected retreat and the extension of our line, there was a gap, and when we inspected it, we found residual chakra in there, meaning someone got there. So I ordered to consolidate the abandoned outposts of the Uzumaki's and make an actual battle plan to cut the redheads, but before that, we needed to heal the injuries and dispatch an team from HQ to track down the Lone wolf..."

He stopped mid track, closed his eyes, breathed then continued, "The injuries was to much for 2 medic-nin to heal a whole 10 Injured Agents, so... I made Akiko return into active duty..." tears started to fall down eyes, "and... you know the rest of the story."

So that's why, without knowing, Izaku hugged his father, also crying. He felt sadness, and anger, but he couldn't imagine what kind of pain his father was suffering. Takahisa Utsukame was a honest men, kind for his family, and a bit protective, you could imagine that he would never return to normal after this, Izaku saw in his past life what grief can do to a men, especially a good men.
