"I regret to inform you all, that Cole succumbed to his wounds and unfortunately has passed away." Giles put down the slip of paper and looked at his audience. They were all seated at a large table in the building known as Big House. There were murmurs and some people sweared profusely once Giles finished speaking. The air was tart with the smell of apple and cinnamon, creating a warm joyful atmosphere. Any other day and the staff would be enjoying themselves and toasting their successes. However, this was not a joyful event in the slightest.
Jericho turned and clinked wine glasses with Summer. "To survival." He couldn't imagine how she must feel, watching her camp turn into a nightmare. Summer nodded, her mask of joy falling for a fraction of a second. "To living." She said. Across from them, a door swung open and out came Jaclyn. She was holding a large plate of cookies. "Anybody want some?"
Lana watched all of this with a horrified expression. Cole had just died, she didn't think that it should mean celebrate with drinks. She put down her own glass of wine and turned to Audrey. "You alright?" Audrey looked up startled. "No I can't wrap my mind around-, it's hard just knowing this night can be what determines your life." She tucked her hair behind her ears. Lana placed her hand on top of Audrey's. "I know. I understand." And she did more than any of them.
Giles swiped the cookies from Jaclyn. "These are mine thank you." They weren't just ordinary cookies. Each dessert had the fates of guests scrawled on it in icing. This would spell either death or life for the staff present. He held the plate of cookies in hand as he reached into his pocket to find the note. He unfurled it and began. "The killer would like to congratulate one of you for solving the crime." There was silence as Giles drew in a breath.
"Congratulations Audrey! You have successfully cracked the case. Please stand and explain to the group how Trinity Garrison was murdered." He sat down as Audrey stood, a frown on her face despite the victory. The people in the room watched her, unblinking. Some thought she must be the killer to know exactly what happened. Lana felt sick to her stomach, the deja vu hitting her like a wave.
"Trinity was in her cabin when I decided to end her life. She was too talkative, too in your face to handle. I snuck in through her window wielding a pair of pliers. I stabbed her in the back once and pushed her to the ground. While she struggled, I took pleasure pulling her ribs out of her body one by one. She bled out and died. Trying to sabotage the investigation, I threw her in a vat of acid to make it look as though she was burned alive. Dragging her out the window and through the woods, she left a trail of blood. I dragged her to the fire pit and turned on my holographic flames to give it the illusion Trinity was burning alive. That is when you found her."
When Audrey finished, there were tears in her eyes. "That's fucking disgusting." Brooklyn said, throwing down her fork. Everyone was uneasy and the room fell quiet almost as though in mourning. The killer was truly a twisted individual this time around, Giles thought to himself. He stood slowly and picked up the plate of cookies. Audrey returned to her seat. "It is time to see who is scared and who is spared."
Giles passed out the cookies to everyone in the room except himself and Lana. "One by one, you will each reveal your fates to the group. Sage, you are first."
Sage stood and flipped her cookie to the back. "Spared." She sat down and Ethan stood up. "Spared. Thank Christ." He ruffled his hair and looked at Phillip, who was next. Phillip slowly turned his cookie around but sighed in relief when he saw the word spared written in icing. So it continued, Summer, Calvin, Brooklyn, and Greer all were spared. Jericho flipped his cookie around and threw it on the table. "Scared." The reality set in and Jaclyn fumbled with her cookie. "I'm spared." She announced. All eyes fell on Zayne and Sherman. Zayne turned his cookie over and sighed. "Sherman turned his around at the same time." Zayne smiled weakly. "Spared." Sherman threw his cookie down and picked up a knife. "How am I fucking scared?" He pointed the knife at Giles.
Lana got up, instantly defending her boss. "Put the knife down. You don't know what will happen." Her voice came out weak. "Good fucking bye!" Sherman stormed out of the room in a flash and Greer heard Jericho mumble "kill him not me." Giles finally stood. "Well, this has been quite an eventful day but it is time to get some rest. Unfortunately, for one of you it will be the end. We will reconvene for breakfast tomorrow."
With that, the room erupted into activity. Summer and Calvin walked over to comfort Jericho. Phillip took a long sip of his wine and left the room. Greer and Brooklyn shared a glare. Zayne went to find Sherman. Giles pulled Lana aside. "Tonight, we have to stay awake. We will sleep in shifts. I will watch Sherman's cabin. You will watch Jericho's cabin. This killer is about to be blindsided." She nodded and that was that. Time to change the game.
