"Cass, I finished your dress."
"Wow, you really outdid yourself, Milly. It's beautiful." I say, half distracted.

I can' t remember his name. Even if he is just a dream, I want to know his name. He felt so real, like my nightmares. He was safe, secure, but also wild and seductive. Shut up Cass, he isn't real. Get him out of your head. And get him in your bed. I pushed the perverted thoughts out of my mind.

"Hello! Earth to Cass!" Milly shouts.

I jump, startled, then laugh.
"Sorry, I was just in deep thought."

"About who?" She asks eagerly.

" It's not a human that I am thinking about, Silly Milly." Which actually wasn't a lie. He did have wings, so he wasn't a human.

"The party is in an hour! We have to do something with you hair. " Milly throws her hands up in a way that almost makes it seems like she is accusing me for running behind.

"Ugh," I groan," alright."

Milly directs me to a vanity with a huge mirror. She must have set up everything when I was asleep, because all of the hair products are laid out. She already has a curling iron, a waver, millions of bobby pins, and about ten different hairbrushes lined up perfectly.

She quickly goes to work, but turns me away from the mirror.
"You can' t see until I'm done." She explains.

"That scares me, Milly." And it did. Last time Milly tried to do a surprise makeover, I ended looking like a girl from the movie Grease. Seriously, my hair was so damaged from that. It was fizzy at the bottom and made a million split ends. I had to get it cut to at least my shoulder so it would look healthy. It's grown back, but the ends only reach to the tips of my breasts.
"Oh shut up, you'll love it ." She jokes.
She blasts music that makes the entire room vibrate. It reminds me when my sisters used to bring me into their rooms and do my hair and make up. They would pick out a million outfits to put me in. Then, they would have me pose and they would take pictures. I miss those times.
My heart feels empty. I am missing something in life. It wants so many things that I can't give it. It wants to be filled with love and passion, the only things you can' t find on eBay. I slowly frown at the hollow feeling in me, and Milly notices.
"Everything ok?" She takes a curling iron out of my hair and sets it down.
"Ugh, being a human is hard. It hurts sometimes." I tear up a bit. Why do I have to marry someone I don't love? I believe in chances but Alex and I have nothing in common.

Milly turns me to face her. "I know this is hard. I can' t relate, but I understand that this is difficult. And yes, it hurts, but they create our fragile hearts to break. It's the only thing we will ever have in common with a complete stranger. Just remember, no one can force you to do anything. You make your own choices no matter what people say. They don't have a right to change your opinion and influence your choices. You are your own beautiful, independent woman. Don't let anyone say otherwise."

I hug her and she squeezes me tight. She's right, I am my own person. I have a right to control my own life. I won't let some spoiled, rich son ruin it.

A knock interrupts my "take charge of my life" thoughts. Milly quickly rushes to the door and opens it slightly.

She leans her ear towards the young man on the other side. He whispers something that makes her frown. She nods and says,"Uh huh."
She closes the door, with disappointment on her face, which is unusual for her.
"The party has been delayed." As soon as she said this, her frown turned into a huge grin. "We have enough time to do the hairstyle that I want for you."

I smiled, excited with the news, but then a question rose up in my head.

"Milly, what are you wearing to the party?"
She bit her lip, signaling that A: She didn't know she was invited or B: She completely forgot that she was going. Either way, she has a pained look on her face and that breaks my heart.

"Well goodness, stop everything, we need to find you a dress." I say, in hopes of cheering her up.

"I don't know what to dress up as."

"Well let's look!" I exclaim.

I practically bolt to the clothing rack, pulling out whatever I could find. I kept shoving the dresses into Milly's hands, which meant to try them on.
The first one she came out in was a deep, seductive red. It looked like a stripper costume, so Milly immediately said no. If it was a party just for fun, then it might have been acceptable.

The next dress was a costume for a mermaid. I can just say that she look stunning.
The tail was a bright blue, frabric that was snug on the hips and then flowed to the floor. Silver netting decorated the top of the tail where her hips and stomach met. The top was the same color blue with silver seashells and gems.
I quickly rushed over to her and took out her braid, letting her thick, brown hair break free in waves.

"Holy crap, you are going to steal Alexander away from me when he sees you in this."

She grins,"Oh stop, thank you Cass."

I smile and let her check herself out in the mirror.
I look upon my own costume and smile. Milly really outdid herself. I slip the dress on, being careful not to rip the delicate fabric.
Milly sits me down and does my hair and makeup in an hour. I get up and quickly slip on my shoes.
I look in the mirror. Holy crap, Milly is fantastic at everything. The dress she made me has a bright purple corset that fits me snug in the waist. A darker purple petticoat flows down to my mid thigh, then a periwinkle blue petticoat follows and fluffs down to my knee. Milly waved my hair and pinned my side bangs back. She took purple and blue make up to make intricate designs around my eyes, making me look a member of some type of fae. My shoes are silver to match the stones on my wings.
"Thank you so much," I say as I hug Milly.
"Oh you know I love playing with your hair. Thanks for helping me pick out a costume." She says, while fixing the netting around her waist.
"Well you look fantastic." I compliment.
She blushes and her green eyes light up. She is gorgeous and I bet every guy at the party will be drooling all over her.

"Seriously though Cass, I know you don't think you are pretty and you are average looking, but you're not. This costume is going to make Alex flip and every guy there will be jealous of him."

I smile at her, even though she is wrong. I am average and common looking and nothing can change that. I slowly walk to the door, being careful not to trip on all the costumes Milly tried on and left in the floor. The maids will clean it up anyway.

I grip the handle of the door knob and slowly turn it. I want to take as much time as possible walking down to the party, that way I won't have to talk to Alex. Unfortunately, Milly gets impatient with me.
"Oh my gummies, just stop stalling and get it over with." And with saying that, she swaps our positions, grabs my arm, and practically pulls me into the hallway.
She drags me down the stairs so fast that I almost trip over my dress and a little bit of the back of my wings, but she immediately grabbed my waist to stop me from face planting.
"God , you are a walking hazard." She complains.
"I didn't know God was so dangerous," I attempt to joke, but she just rolls her eyes and continues her dreaded dragging.
Sheesh, someone has attitude tonight.

When we get to the bottom, she finally loosens her grip on me, but she yanks me around a corner.
"Hey-" I start to complain about the fact that the yanking could damage my wings, but I was cut off by a gasp. I quickly looked up and saw a man my age, with brown mixed with blonde hair and blue eyes that could melt your heart. Someone I was hoping I would never see again.
"Mason, what are you doing here?"
