Chapter 2

But I was wrong. I saw him practically every day as he returned every evening. He always sat at the same table and I always rushed to serve him. The few moments that we saw each other were the happiest for me, even if he was just a client. I lived to see his smile and look in his eyes, even if for a few minutes. I was falling for him and this was wrong. I was losing my mind about a man I knew nothing about.

It was Friday, and I was supposed to have the evening off. But instead of being happy that for once I could go out like normal girls my age did, I felt desperate. I wanted to see him, as I was certain he would be at the restaurant. I grabbed my mobile and looked for Sophie's number. She was a waitress who usually worked mornings, but twice a week we swapped the shifts so that I could have an evening off. Although it was insane, I called her and asked her to work on Saturday morning instead.

"Hey," Leah said when she saw me coming into the restaurant. "What are you doing here?" She asked with her usual odious attitude. We were friends, or at least I thought so, but lately, she was behaving strangely. "I thought it was your day off."

"Well, it was, but Sophie called me this morning. She's sick, and I offered to work her shift." I lied.  Leah didn't buy it, of course, she knew me better than I thought.

"You're doing it for him, right?"

"What are you talking about?" I snapped, irritated.

"He's dangerous." She said as she came next to me. "He's not for you."

I sighed, we have been on this argument before. Why did she keep thinking badly of him?

"Are you jealous because he seems to like me?" I asked as I gazed at her.

"Huh? Jealous? Of course not. I'm just trying to help."

"I don't want your help! And then how can you say he's dangerous? Do you know him?" I asked.

"No. But I talked with his friend Raymond. Do you remember the man that was with him when they first came here? Well, we went out together yesterday," she said, taking me by surprise.

"What?"

"I like him. He's nice."

"What did he tell you about Steven?" I asked.

"He told me he's a playboy. That he eats girls like you for breakfast. Your Steven likes to sleep around and then disappear."

I felt my heart heave, and my stomach twisting. I couldn't believe what she was saying was true. He didn't look like that kind of person. Ok, he was gorgeous and I'm sure he had many girls in his bed, but he never did a pace on me. Then perhaps he didn't like me or thought I was just a kid.

"Are you seeing Raymond again?" I asked.

"I think so. He's staying in town for some time. He's here on business."

"Can't you do me a favour and try to set us up? A date, the four of us?" I asked, all hopeful.

"Haven't you heard what I just told you?"

I shrugged. "Even if it is true, I don't care. What if he sleeps with me and then leaves me? I'm not after marriage. I just want to have some fun. And I'm sure I can have it in his arms."

I wasn't telling the truth. I wasn't looking for just some fun. I wanted more, but if fun was all I could get from a man like Steven, then I wanted just the same.

"I tried to warn you. You're only nineteen. You want to give yourself to a man like this. Without love? Are you sure you can handle it?"

"As you said, I'm just nineteen and I shouldn't be thinking about marriage and stuff like that. He's gorgeous and yes, I can handle it."
