Plot- Kiara has a nightmare. JJ is there for her.
Most nights, Kiara didn't have trouble falling asleep. Sure, the occasional nightmare would show up, but those stopped long before her high school years. At least it seemed that way.
Since the entire John B fiasco, her mind had been elsewhere, and her sleep suffered as a result. It wasn't gun shots or death that followed her unconscious mind.
It was just him never being found. Disappearing, being forgotten, and never being heard from again. That was what scared her shitless.
Not knowing what happened made things worse because it allowed her imagination to thrive. It didn't help that she and JJ finally started sleeping together.
"Yo, Kie!" She just prayed he never found out. "Lemme in!"
She walked over to the window, confusedly staring down at him in front of her house. "JJ, what are you doing here?"
He only laughed, pushing his hair back and readjusting his hat. "You gonna let me in or..."
She just rolled her eyes, leaving the window and dashing down the stairs to let him inside. The first thing he did was hug her, which caught her off guard for the moment. When he finally pulled back, she was giggling.
"What was that for?"
"Dunno." He shrugged. "Missed you."
He clapped his hands together next, going on a rant about something Rafe had said that day. She was listening intently, following him back up the stairs until he busted in her her room and flopped on her bed.
Her mind wandered as he dragged on. She wasn't trying to ignore him. It was just that she was... tired. It had becoming sort of a habit to avoid nightmares by avoiding sleep. And then he hit her with it.
"And I figured we could pay a tribute to John B at our spot..." he mumbled it, but Kiaras head snapped to meet his blue gaze. "Just a thought."
She was quiet for a while, and JJ hated every second of it. They hadn't even spoken about the possibility of death. Finally, "Um, yeah."
It was substitute for what she wanted to say; that she wasn't ready, that she wasn't sure she would ever be ready. He'd definitely noticed her uneasy state. By then, he'd inched himself closer to her, guiding his fingers up and down her thigh as a sort of silent reassurance.
From the looks of things, it was working. At least enough for JJ to pull her onto the bed with him, cuddling back against the pillows and facing whatever was on Kie's tv screen.
She had to admit, she hadn't been that comfortable in a while. It was cozy and seemingly perfect. But then she got tired, and panic began to settle. She couldn't fall asleep. If she had a nightmare, JJ would see. He'd definitely ask questions, and she would have to answer.
No, that couldn't happen. So she decided to suggest they do something else. That plan lasted all of five seconds. As she looked down, she noticed his hands motionless around her waist, and then when she looked up, the fact that his eyes were closed.
So that was just great. She'd be damned if she woke him up. He struggled with sleep before John B. Now she was stuck, and even though he was adorable, it was the last thing she needed.
So she glued herself to the television, hating that it was so boring. Nothing good was on, which was probably why JJ fell asleep so fast. She hated that her body was growing lethargic no matter what she did. Her mind replayed the thought that sleep wasn't an option.
Unfortunately for her, she didn't have much of a choice in the matter. While she tried her damn best, her eyes still began to drop, and JJ's thumb lazily rubbing over her arm, just a little, sent her into a deep slumber.

The nightmare began soon as she closed her eyes. John B was there, of course, and he actually seemed okay. He was happy, running with his surfboard and calling to someone. Upon further inspection, Kiara noticed it was JJ. He was smiling too... oblivious to the bullet wound steadily emitting blood from John Bs chest.
Suddenly, The Routledge boy collapsed. She ran to his side, but he couldn't see she was there. JJ didn't even stop to check on him. That's around when the screaming began. For help, for JJ, for John B, for fucking anyone.
Needless to say, no one ever came. She noticed more and more people at the beach, but not a single one of them even looked at her. She felt his body grow limp, and immediately flinched herself awake.

When she woke up, she ripped herself out of her boyfriends grip.
"Woah, okay, I'm up!" JJ's response quickly ran out, laced with undirected defense and sleep. "Fuck you wa-ant?"
She covered her mouth, failing to stifle a sob, and then bolting to the bathroom. It was dark outside now, causing JJ to have to adjust. He slowly willed himself to stand up, processing what had just happened.
"Kie...?" He whispered. Then, louder, "Kie!"
She clearly wasn't going going to respond, so he followed her footsteps to the bathroom, staring at the light that leaked out the bottom. He gently knocked on the door, worry keeping his body alert.
"Kie, are you alright?"
"Fine." Was her response.
He hesitated. "Shit...."
How do you comfort someone like Kiara?
"Uh... no offense, but you're a really bad liar."
He heard a small chuckle followed by a click, and he'd been granted an entrance. He silently cheered before slowly walking inside and sitting next to her. She was staring blankly at the floor, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Nightmare." He deadpanned. It wasn't a question.
A quiet sob sounded between the two of them, and JJ instantly pulled her into a hug.
"This is so fucking embarrassing." She laughed, harshly scrubbing her face.
"No, it's not." He whispered, twirling a few strands of her hair between his fingers. "It's totally normal. I have nightmares all the time."
She practically melted into him, and he held her tighter. "Did you wanna talk about it?"
Her initial reaction was no. Immediately no. But then she was speaking, and she couldn't help the crack in her voice.
"I just keep seeing him dead. Like he and Sarah just died and nobody gave a shit. Y-You didn't even notice he was bleeding i-in the dream."
He sighed, taking her hand at some point. She hadn't mentioned his actual name, but they both knew she was talking about John B. It was in the way she spoke like she was seven and her older brother had just left her.
"He's okay." JJ reassured her. "He's gonna come back to us. Routledge boy would never leave us."
She flinched at his name, curling into him. "It's gonna be okay." He continued. "We're gonna be fine, okay?"
The Carrera nodded against him, sniveling every few seconds. When JJ looked at his watch, he noticed it was well past 12am. That wasn't completely ideal, considering they had school the next morning, and Kiara would flip if they were late again.
Still, he was hoping to get her to stay home the next day anyway. She definitely needed a break. When he noticed she'd gone slack, it proved his point. Not many people can fall asleep on a freezing tile floor. JJ was not one of those people.
He slowly eased them both up, careful to guide her back to their bedroom without fully waking or startling her. She might as well have passed out as soon as she hit the sheets.
Again, sorry for slow updates. I'm out of requests again. I still love you guys though!
