Leaves around rustle. One of them, eaten and chewed, flies off in your direction. It twists —circles. Worn out and dried up, it sticks to your clothing.

You swat it, letting it fall before crushing it with your shoe. Without a single move, your gaze drops down to the crumpled up pieces.

At Takemichi's ever lasting glare, you lean your head back and heave a long sigh.

"Do you..." The view above is slowly consumed by a black curtain, shut with delicacy. "know something I don't?"

Escaping from the clouds, the moon shows, shining her distinctive glow. She casts your shadow, reaching for Takemichi, whose mouth's agape.

"Wha—" His question dies in his throat, clearing it before trying again. "What?"

Your shoulders shrug before slumping. Eyes, indifferent, drift somewhere else along the murky sky.

"You sound so sure of yourself." Chifuyu, behind him, shakes his head. A drop of cold sweat runs down his face, falling. "As if you know I'm gonna murder someone."

Takemichi gulps, taking a step back after a swift slide is all it takes for your glare to connect with his. Your pupils shrink, injecting every bit of uneasiness into Takemichi's gut.

Frowning, you don't look away from him.

"Am I?"

The question alone, dripping with sarcasm and stretched out to bore, sends goosebumps all over Takemichi's body.

He flinches, gripping his arm to stop it from shaking. Chifuyu sighs, moving forward to place his hand on his shoulder —squeezing it.

"Partner..." It's low, wrapped in concern and support.

Chifuyu clicks his tongue, turning his head away from you. Away from the fear oozing out of you, the leer you are attacking them with.

In his head, a single question pops up; wanting an answer more than anything.

Is this who you really were talking about, Baji?

Ignorance is bliss, but bliss can only last so long.

"You are not two steps ahead of everybody," You place your hands inside your coat's pockets. The gold bracelet peeking out. "like you think you are."

You don't raise your voice, keeping your cool. Yet, Takemichi's hands —clenching fists who tremble— begin to ache more and more.

Grinding his teeth, Takemichi's eyes now a burning blue make way for him to come closer to you. Leaving a wide-eyed Chifuyu back, the latter gasps when he eases the hold on one hand, putting it between you two.

"Take my hand." You drop your gaze towards it, lifting it back up to a fiery glaze over oceanic blue. "You never did it when we first met, now's the time."

Knitting your brows close together, you squint at the open hand. A deep red covers it, quivering here and there.

Taking a hand off your pocket, your shadow sticks out to Takemichi's —grazing it in a ghost touch which pressures over.

Even so, the moon's consumed by grey fluff. Letting your projection fade as you pull your arm back, right as your fingertips kiss.

Your stare narrows, pulling a tight-lipped smile. From above, the moonlight runs away from the three of you, leaving the wind to sing in silence.

"I pass."

And Takemichi, who gapes at your parting form, has to resist the urge to fall on his knees, tug at his hair and yell at the top of his lungs.
