Preparing For The Cat

The boys come over, excited to have a new friend to play with. Alpine isn't a fan, however and Bucky hides a grin when the cat ignores both boys and hisses at them, opting to stay in his room. Just like him, she's really bad with new people. When the two start making a fuss, the younger especially, their mother sends them to play out in the yard and looks at the two men in front of her, a hand on her hip.

"You two are insane. You do know that, right?"

"Wh-"

"Shut it, Sam. You brought in a stray? No tests done, nothing?!" Dammit. Couldn't Sam have just lied to his sister about all that? "My kids almost touched it- your nephews! If it wasn't so uninterested in socialising, I would've had to take them to the hospital."

"Alpine's very like me, isn't he?" Bucky comments absent-mindedly, forcing  a sweet smile when she glares at him. Sam clears his throat and slowly but surely throws Bucky under the bus.

"So... Uh... In my defence, it's Buck that found the cat."

"Wow, thanks a lot-"

"And so what? It's your place that you both share, why didn't you tell him you couldn't keep it?!" Well... That didn't work. Especially if the barely noticeable smirk on Bucky's face has anything to say about it.

"Well... Umm... Just look at him, sis! I couldn't say no, honestly I couldn't." Sam casts a gesture at Buck as if it's going to make his reasoning entirely obvious. He then grabs his sister by the hand and takes her to his room. "Look... I don't know what it is about this cat, maybe it's got drugs on its skin or some shit but you have to see the way Bucky's been acting the past couple days. He's... Happier. It's bizarre as hell but he's happier and that's all I need to know. All I want is-"

"His happiness, blah blah I get it. Geez. Relax, alright bro? I'm not mad at you for doing anything for your little crush, I just worry you two don't realise how much responsibility this could be."

"I don't care. We'll figure it out, we always do. But if you could help out a bit with advice and shit, I'd love you even more than I do now... Which is a lot~"

"Kissass." They walk out of his room together and Bucky huffs, as if to say "finally" and walks over.

"Better be some family-friendly, pg-rated talking you were having in there." Hands in his pockets, he chuckles smugly. The horrified looks on the siblings' faces are almost perfect reflections.

"OH GOD THAT IS SO-"

"THAT IS... THE MOST DISGUSTING THING I'VE EVER-"

"Look, we live dangerously close to Alabama, I was just checking." As Bucky wheezes out laughter, Sam deadpans at him while Sarah deadpans at him. She smacks her brother over the head and he whines a bit, protecting his poor scalp from further assault and running off to hide behind Bucky. He grips the back of his shirt and pulls him toward his chest like a shield. Bucky can't help but smile a little at the random tug, even as he's being used as a human barricade. Before he would've been pissed off but he's used to and kind of fond of Sam being touchy at the most random moments by now.

"What did you do to our still somewhat innocent 40s Bucky?!" Bucky's brows furrows because he's always been anything but innocenr- still, there's a lot of interesting... Terminology in this century that his generation could never have even imagined.

"I knew I shouldn't have taught him pop culture shit. It's finally come back to bite me, my time hath cometh-"

"Alright, shut the fuck up. Both of ya. You're gonna figure this out. Now I don't have a cat but we do have a dog so I know at least a little about pets."
